Armors without multiple parts

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 4:30 am

As you all know in a previous thread, which is now closed due to post limit, auruin discovered that in playstation magazine Todd mentioned that "...clothing will be simplified, with outfits and armor sets coming as a single suit rather than separate parts." like in fallout

If this is true and not a misunderstanding, how much will it influence your interest on the game?

Edit: Some people think that this is a "trial baloon" that bethesda is using. It means that, bethesda is trying to know our opinion about armors with less parts...If there is a negative reaction, they won't do that. But of course this is only a speculation

Something so trivial wouldn't stop me from playing the game, but I would certainly prefer to see separate armour pieces.

What?? If that quote is true, I will be heavily, heavily disappointed.

I would downgrade from collectors edition to normal.

But I believe the sentence is just a bit misleading: clothing and armor will not be separate, meaning you can't wear a cuirass and a shirt, or a skirt and greaves.

People should keep in mind that there is conflicting info on this, but most of the screenshot evidence I've seen supports the multiple pieces paradigm, as does a dev tweet.

Someone has tweeted a dev on this specifically and we are still waiting on the reply.

I'm 90% certain it's not true and people are getting worked up over nothing.

For the sake of discussion though, if it was true I think there would be such an uproar from fans that Bethesda would end up changing it back to multiple parts.

There was hope though. It might have meant that a certain piece of armor would come with a certain piece of clothing under it. That's the idea some other forumers had

I'm really dissapointed about this. But to be honest, anyone who didn't see this coming must've been living under a rock.
Apparently, cutting features is away is the cool thing to do now.
I just hope they leave at least some sort of slots open so modders can fix another stupid decision.

Something so essential would definitely make me reconsider a day-1 purchase. Might still pick it up down the road when a mod fixed such a glaring issue, but it would surely kill much of my current anticipation for the game.

Well, we'll find out soon enough with the fan interview, hopefully. There's a lot of conflicting information so I'm not too worried.

Personally, I'm willing to bet there's 1-piece armor as well as multi-piece armor, sort of like the Arena raiment. Weaker armor could come in a 1-piece thing and stronger armor in multiple pieces. Who knows?

Let's wait until E3 and the fan interview before we :ahhh: :ahhh:

No more special stuff like "boots of blinding speed" if this is true... The point where you have either complete daedric armor or nothing at all isnt acceptable. I dont see them do this tbh.

I believe it was talking about the armor being displayed in your inventory. Instead of being in multiple pieces, you see it as one suit and you can select the pieces you want to equip.

Maybe the cuirass and the greaves are combined, and the boots, gauntlets, and helmet are separate.

But for goodness sake, don't let this be true Bethesda...

I'm pretty sure that Pete Hines confirmed SEPARATE armor pieces and that they were NOT making a fallout game a long time ago. AND that PSM was referring to the combining of armor sets in the INVENTORY to reduce clutter.

If it's true, then they lost my preorder and day one purchase. I can accept the removal of acrobatics and athletics. I can deal with no mysticism and no hand to hand. I'll get over the lack of spears. But I draw the line of at armor slots. It doesn't matter what they've added in exchange. Armor customization is one of the best parts of RPGs for me, and taking that away signals that Bethesda is heading in a direction that I don't approve of.

Of course, I highly doubt that armors slots have actually been removed, and thus I still will be buying on day one.

As of now I think either option is just as likely as the other. I say let's wait for a real confirmation before we jump to conclusions.

This board needs a dev to come in here and set it all straight or this will continue forever a couple more days until E3.

This is exactly how I feel. If it's true, I'll wait a couple months or so for the price to drop and/or mods to roll out.

Well...on the one hand, it sounds (as quoted) like some of Todd's typical used-car-salesman noncommital rubbish as often used to prevent giving something else entirely away or to just deflect the conversation off in another direction.

Should it actually be true in the context this thread's OP is suggesting, though, it would very easily be the straw on the dromedary's spine that moves me from "...when the GotY edition comes out so they can't nickel and dime me to death for a half-dozen midsize DLCs..." to "Welp, hope Diablo III kicks ass."

Just so people know what Pete really said:

@DCDeacon Will Skyrim's armor be one-piece or separated into cuirass, greaves, boots, and gauntlets?
@teambrady Armor is comprised of separate pieces.

Considering this was last week, I think it's still up to date.

Confirmation or refutation of this has me on tenterhooks. If it is true that we only have single set armor like Fallout... I don't know, it may be like Dragon Age 2 when I found out only humans were playable. All interest was completely lost and I never looked at the game again, never bought it, never had the inclination to do anything with it.

I've been pouring over the screenshots we have, plus the screengrabs from the trailer and I don't know what to think. Yeah, gloves/bracers and helmets and presumably boots are interchangable at the very least, but I've not noticed a great deal of evidence that the cuirass and cuisse/greaves are seperate from each other. It's starting to worry me.

I really, really hope the armor is seperate pieces, that Bethesda hasn't changed it to something lesser. One of my favorite things to do in Daggerfall is pair various pieces of armor together to see what they look like. Evening dress plus iron cuirass is quite fun.
