No armour over clothes?

In the demo, when Todd loots Arvel's corpse, he has both hide armour and farm clothes in his inventory, but only the armour is equipped. Not conclusive, but also not promising.

I believe it's not in (Don't quote me though!)

But it makes sense, especially when you consider that in places you can see the skin under the hide armour. Making it fit clothes in the gaps would be very awkward.

Very much this. I think the art direction was a bit stronger on Skyrim than previous games, all but requiring a certain look with different armor sets. For example, how silly would Dovahkiin look if his arms were covered with a poofy blue shirt?

We don't know. It's irrelevant.

Wearing clothes under armor is a really cool option. I had a Redguard Paladin in Morrowind who wore an Exquisite shirt under his briastplate. And since I didn't armor my shield arm, you could see this flash of blue silk underneath his steel. He also wore Exquisite shoes and a Colovian fur helm, at least when he wasn't smiting undead.

I know I sacrificed some armor points, but it made the character look unique, and gave him personality. Some people might use that system to stack enchantments, but that's not a reason not to include it.

They combined cuirass and greaves into one piece for streamlining (read as to remove choice), I don't see them spending time putting back clothes under armour functionality when they cut corners like that to a higher degree with each title.

Yeah, but Legion armor covered your entire body (unless a Khajiit or Argonian, then you'd have a tail sticking out). There would be no need to wear clothes under that.

Yes, it really matters.
Customisation greatly increases the lifespan of a game.
Less means Ill have to shelf the game earlier.
Now, Im perfectly fine with a Bioware game only lasting 15 hours, I dont expect more from them.
But not Bethesda.
No clothes under armour would be another horrible decision.

I don't think this is a big deal anyway, but.........

.....we still don't know what Smithing involves. I wonder if it also involves making clothes or combining different fabrics into the armour to create an armour suit that contains both clothing and armour. I know it's cumbersome to have to piece together bits and pieces on a smith table rather than just equipping your hooded cloak over your pauldrons, but depending on how detailed the smithing process is, we may be able to create many combinations of things. Maybe we'll finally have a use for all that folded cloth we find scattered around.

What I'm looking forward to finding out is, can we enchant all the different bits first, then smith the enchanted bits together into a whole suit of armour and will all the enchantments on the bits then stack in the final piece?

Guess we won't know till we play or till BGS release more info on the smithing mechanic and how that system will work with the enchanting mechanic. All in all, I'm excited about the possibilities. I think BGS is enabling us to get really creative with this new overhaul. It's like having to open all the Windows of your mind to allow the Apple to seed its creative potential into your brain.

Apparently were not allowed to say things like that, the people that love stripping down content, features and options get upset.

Well I get upset when people love that features are stripped, content removed and options dumbed down, so that balances out to a nice zero I suppose.

It wasn't in oblivion so it's not getting "stripped out" of the series. Besides its more than likely too late to add this in. They are pretty much completely finished with creating the game. They are probably just testing the living [censored] out of it for bugs (they should be anyway). Do I think that it should have been taken out: no. Do I wish that armor was merged: no. Do I wish crossbows were removed: hell no. But, Bethesda did these things for a good reason (probably related to hardware issues with the consoles or time constraints) or they wouldn't have taken them out. They have been doing this for an incredibly long time and they know way more about game design than anybody on this forum. Either way, I'm sure these, and many other things, will be modded in.

They're trying to make armor and weapons more detailed. The more individual sections they have, the less detail they can have, apparently. I'm no expert, but that seems to be the general rule.

I personally would prefer less customizable but better looking armor, as much as Ioved messing about in Morrowind.

But I agree, customization is a huge part of this sort of game. Look on the bright side, character creation is more sophisicated and better looking than ever. That's certainly an aspect of customization.

Edit: t003 I agree completely. A lot of people criticize Bethesda without considering their motives.

I dont really care about Oblivion as that started a trend that I had hoped Skyrim would not follow.
So many things removed, dumbed down or hardcapped.

Im not that sure about the 'good reason' either.
Technology has moved on. One would expect improvements in the series in all areas. Not just graphics and flashy gimmicks added and so much of what made it great removed.
Armour/ clothing customisation is just a small part of that.
I had really hoped that this time around there would me more. More of everything. Not less.

It may not be possible to mod extra slots in, as it may be hardwired as in Oblivion.
Though they might take the fallout route and leave extra slots in the construction set.
Lets hope for that.

And I get upset when people can't stop complaining about trivial matters. Customization is important, but for the umpteenth time: if you want customization at the price of gameplay or story-telling, go play the Sims. Then you can customize almost everything and you can work with sliders and whatnot to create the character you truly want. And then the game is pretty much over...

It would be AWESOME to wear clothing under armor, but there are a lot of reasons why it is to hard. First of all it would add another layer to the armor and that means that for each piece of clothing a new graphic should be made when merged with said armor (they would have to redo the spaces were the fabric comes out again and again for different styles) It would also mean a lot more time would be required to make the game. It would also make it harder not to have pieces of clothing clipping and it would make modding harder too. If you make your own armor set with the Creation Kit only to find out that your clothing clips through it svcks.

They probably had more reason's than that not to do it. Personally I don't care if I have 100 beards or 50 beards. As long as those 50 beards look awesome, I'm happy. It sure is a lot better than 100 crappy beards. Same thing applies to everything.

And no, they aren't "dumbing things down". They just try to make a game that runs smooth and that is intuitive and fun to play. Sliders are not fun. Walls of text aren't fun (except in dialogue, but even that has limits!) Numbers sure as hell aren't fun.

Exploring and enjoying the game is what it's all about. And seeing my clothes under my armor will make me happy for about 10 seconds. Gameplay will keep me happy for 50 hours at least.
