[RELzWIPz] Armoury of Tamriel, Thread 17 - v2 "Soon"

Post » Wed Jun 19, 2013 1:40 pm

Yes, but the question was "why change the names on the already-extant weapons," and the answer is "to not do that would be inconsistent." We developed a naming system for the reasons Deostades mentions. It wouldn't make sense to abstain from using it only some of the time.

Looks good! Am I right in assuming the third shot of Blade's Armor is the Orichalcum varient?

Heh heh... I really can't wait for this mod to be done and published. I wish I had more to offer your team in terms of help, but I can barely work NIFSkope, and have no talent with photoshop/paint.net/etc.

That approach works well for conserving disk space, but it would have poor support for Steam. Anything that's not 'click here, then load the game'...

If you do go the route of .esm, then I'll probably make an optional file for it on the Nexus. I just don't like the idea of making my main file depend on something that could get taken down, or moved to a new location. I think it's much better to keep mods as a self contained package, so that if something goes wrong, it stays in that one little area. Plus, it minimizes the number of 'this doesn't work - did you download X' conversations.

Would you be okay with me including a few of your armors in my house mod? I want a "unique" looking set of armor, and I have no modeling/texturing talent. My plan is to make it an option version of the mod that has the Crafting300.esm as a master.

You need to have book in your inventory to be able to craft that style of items.

I am as well. This mod is my favorite mod to date. It's really a brilliant idea, and I love that you need books to learn how to craft certain styles.

This mod is not on Steam. It likely never will. It'll end up weighing at least 2GB, twice the maximum for an entire Steam account and 20 times the maximum for a single mod.

So. I've been playing Skyrim a lot lately thanks to Dragonborn. In Dragonborn there is an armour style called "Carved Nordic" this is the first time I've seen really realistic looking steel in Skyrim. I really like the material and have been trying to figure out how to change some weapons to be more of that smoother, more realistic metal style. I haven't had much luck so-far. I think I'm having the most trouble with generating a smooth normal map.

This: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/71/Uncrossed_gladius.jpg is how steel should look. Not like it does in vanilla Skyrim and not like most very well done texture packs either. Steel isn't some grey textured material, it's smooth and white. If anyone has any Ideas id be glad to hear them. I'd be really interested in working over some more realistic weapon textures.
