US army's new XM25 rifle.

Post » Sun Dec 05, 2010 7:24 am

Do a search on XM25 rifle. The army has just deployed it to Afghanistan. Radio controlled smart bullets are programmed to explode at a set distance instead when they hit something. If an enemy hides behind cover, the soldier can aim at the spot just above where the enemy is hiding and the bullet will explode above the enemy. Effectively, cover on the battlefield doesn't exist anymore. Quite literally, you can run but you cannot hide.

Cool. But the XM25 uses grenades, not bullets, and only four grenades. Kinda a big difference. :P

Too fancy and over designed for my tastes. Metal storm would be a better option if they would just compromise the rifles promised design with a rear loading clip design. Higher caliber bullets, more of them, and with greater accuracy. Probably reduced cost as well compared to this. It also wouldn't have to fear from technological failures like the XM25 would. It's okay to have additional digital components, but if for whatever reason the digital stuff stops working then your [censored] and out of a gun.

Cover never did exist on the battlefield. It's called .50 FMJ. :P

If we had the technological level to make it. A quark gluon plasma gun (I'll call it a blaster) would be amazing. However it is just a pipe dream. No 4 trillion degrees celsius plasma death for you. Oooo apparently the old records were passed. They managed to create some in the tens of trillions of degrees. Muahahaha mad science for the win.

You [censored] hippie.

Anyways, that is pretty cool, but after playing so many FPS games, this seems a bit dull. I will join the army when they start equipping soldiers with lightsabers or plasma swords.

Nothing wrong with guns at all. The problem are the people that use them, the ones that use them for the wrong reasons. Murder, war, blackmail(as in someone pulls out a gun to someone and makes forces them to do something), etc. I love my shotgun, I just use it for shooting clay-birds and when I get my hunting license in the future. There is nothing wrong with guns.

Then there are the people who carry them for self defence... against dangerous animals such as lions or wild pigs.

This too, and for home defense from a robber or some other criminal. Automatic guns should remain illegal to the public, that is for sure.

Because GUNS kill people. Not HUMANS. :P

If all guns melted it's not like all fighting would end. Don't you know your history? We didn't always fight with guns you know. The man with the bigger stick makes the rules. And boy does it feel good to be behind the guy with the bigger stick.

BTW this is obviously going to be the next overused noob weapon in the next Call Of Duty game

Um so its grenades that exploded not bullets, and is it just a field test thing or a full deployment?I imagine it is fairly expensive to make as well.

That is more debatable . And I believe we've had that debate before, with lockable results :(.

It is a grenade launcher, and its being field tested (handing it out to a few people, seeing how they go) in Afghanistan.

Oops. Sorry! But I didn't mean shoot to kill, more like scare off. But I will leave it at that and break the bridge there. :P

And it wouldn't be handed to a few people. More like a few companies.
