no arrow enchanting

Post » Mon Sep 05, 2011 6:13 am

so in an interview it was said that you will be able to enchant your bow but not your arrows, what do u think about this? i personaly think it is a bad thing because players will end up with many bows in there inventory for with differant enchantmants and just one set of arrows, instead of having one good bow and an arrow for every job.

Enchanting the bow is much better than having to enchant each arrow. Also, I think the point is that you have to choose your enchantment. Having a bow and 6 quivers with various enchantments is equal to having one sword with 6 enchantments, and you just choose which one you want to be active.

As long as we can still apply potions to arrows, I don't really mind.

I don't see that as a bad thing. Having to have a different bow for each situation if you want to is just one of those things that add to the game. "Having to choose your enchantment" ala Kreissage is right.

Enchanting arrows individually seems both a little pointless since you won't have/need 400 arrows for 5 enemies as your bow isn't a mini-gun anymore.

Plus again, it makes you choose your enchantments.

And if you could enchant the whole arrow set as you suggested, well. Quite a bad idea.

I'd think you can still add poisons or other things like drain health to arrows though.

Also having one bow and just a single enchanted arrow wouldn't get you very far.

With Arrows being alot more rare, i don't really see it as an issue if they did allow it. Though poisons would sort of make more sense and a better way in terms of balance.

damn, The Electric and fire arrows that were found in dungeons were great for my archer. There were only a few but and they werent that op really. They woudnt be rechargable like a sword because you only get your arrow 1 / 3 of the time.

Their not rare persay as you might be thinking from what they said early on. I highly doubt it as a scarcity of arrows wouldn't be fair. Rather arrow amounts found/used/sold will be a bit more realistic. With the tweaked archery damage and use you have no need for hundreds of arrows anymore.

Which you could argue is the more traditional RPG way to go. Statistics are supposed to trump realism.

So less arrows for sale probably but still a healthy amount. Probably won't be rare as the word suggests.

Now though availability might be regional. And thinking about the materials needed for sturdy bow and arrows an area surrounded by peaked mountains, full of snow and blizzards, and lacking trees would have low amounts or no arrows.

It always bothered me that I couldn't enchant arrows in Oblivion, so yeah this annoyed me.

I would rather keep track of 3 bows with different enchantments than manage 18 kinds of arrows. An imbue weapon spell for temporary enchantments (maybe even as an enchantment perk?) and applying poisons for much the same effect would be interesting. This would go nicely with Spellsword builds. Each strike or shot would drain the user's magicka, in order to keep things balanced and prevent the soul economy (recharging with soul stones, etc.) from becoming obsolete. Poisons, as usual, would be one-shot deals.

Since bows are much stronger you don't really need enchanted arrows. My reason being is since bows were weak in oblivion i would enchant the bow with elemental damage and then have some arrows with elemental damage or silence etc. now since they are stronger you just pick which enchantment you want the most

Makes perfect sense to me. Enchanting one bow requires 1 soul gem; enchanting 50 arrows would require 50 soul gems (unless you could enchant a stack which is just [censored] and makes no sense) which would deliver the same effect; if both were enchant-able the stacking effects would be a bit ridiculous. Plus, I can't think of a better way to waste enchantments than to use them for arrows; seeing as how arrows are ammunition and you'll be going through them a lot quicker than anything else. I also feel that when you enchant something, it should be significant and will last you a long time; enchanting ammunition just seems like a waste.

i woud prefer enchanted arrows so long as an enchantment yields me a stack of around 10-20 enchanted arrows. i think that would make it better and more balanced.

It would have been kind of a neat feature to be able to enchant, say a quiver of 10 or 20 arrows at a time for an appropriate cost. But to be honest in OB I hardly ever used enchanted arrows I found in the game. I prefered enchanting my own bow and letting that do the work. But I am all about giving players options so if they decide to put it in I would gladly accept it.

Wouldn't enchanting a quiver of arrows require ALOT of soul gems?

This. Alchemy is supposed to provide your special-function marksmanship. The bow is supposed to have your general purpose enchant. And the arrows are supposed to just deliver the damage.

One thing I hate about it is that when you fire an enchanted arrow and kill someone the arrow just diseaper! I'm going to save the enchanted arrows I find and put them in chests in my home, unless it's possible to retrive them afterwards.

Yes I always felt after you shot them they should of been retrievable except not enchanted anymore.

But as Skyrim the bows themselves are only enchanted the point is moot.

I just hope arrows and ranged weapons don't disappear.

It was a cheap input by Obsidian in New Vegas for spears.
