Arrow Premature Release?

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 1:51 pm

Hello.
I have been encountering a problem with my bow. I have been having this problem for a while now, on more than one character.

Sometimes, when I draw back the bow, the arrow will be released early (almost like I only click LMB, rather than holding it down). Often when this happens it will go on for a handful of shots. A new thing I noticed recently is if I try and persevere, the arrow sometimes becomes 'stuck' in the drawn phase, so I am moving about with the bow full drawn, without holding down LMB. These problems weren't really an issue at first, but now I have an enchanted bow, it's costing me charges each time it messes up. It's also very annoying to get into the perfect position for a sneak shot, only to have the bow fire a few feet in front of me, and alert my target.

I have never seen this problem in any other attack (sword or spells for instance). I also spend a little time on my desktop drawing out selection boxes and holding them there, to see if it was my mouse at fault, but it doesn't seem to be.

Has anyone else seen this problem, and is there a fix for it?

They make pills for that I think.

Seriously though I've had arrows do this too, and I've got no idea what causes the game to forget I clicked and held instead of just tapping the button. It hasn't been a big issue for me, and usually only end up wasting one or two arrows/charges. Does get annoying when you perfectly line up a flying dragon and have the arrow fall at your feet. I personally notice a little lag right before it happens, which for all I know is the culprit.

Yeah it does appear to be something related to performance - that is it tends to occur during demanding scenes or alongside something causing a frame-rate hit. I've noticed a similar thing happening that actually makes more sense in that regard. Sometimes the arrow will get "stuck" as in it stays readied even though I've let up on the mouse button. This only happens during demanding scenes and also mostly while using the time-slowing zoom mode. This actually makes more sense happening than arrows being prematurely loosed as "clicking" and then "un-clicking" are discrete signals sent by the mouse. A mouse does not usually work by constantly sending a signal while a button is held down - just one when its pressed and one when it is released. So it is beleivable that in moments of poor performance the "un-click" may have simply been missed.

I've had both happen at times though - not often - and I'm not entirely sure why the premature release one happens.

It's true though. Premature arrow release is a source of anxiety and shame among many archers. :cryvaultboy:

I had it again this morning. It seems to happen mostly while I am sneaking, doubly so if I am moving while I draw my bow.

Is this from the beginning, or only after taking the "Quick shot" perk which affects the animation speed (makes it 30% faster)?

I don't have the quick shot perk, so it can't be that. Although saying that, I didn't notice it until I was a way into the game and had levelled up a bit (maybe orcish bow and up, currently using elven bow with shock damage).

I recently started a new character, a battlemage. I have been using spells mostly, dual-casting them, and I've noticed a similar problem to our arrow release - basically, I have a very hard time getting the game to cast with my right hand if I am moving. As soon as I stop, I can cast fine.
