Arrow in the knee

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:53 am

It's not a reference, it's a commentary on the overuse of this line of dialog used by Skyrim's guards. It's amusing, but the frequency with which it is used by NPCs is ridiculous. Adaption of this saying in any other context can be read as a comment or recognition of that fact.

I find it hard to believe that it's so frequently heard, I've only ever heard it three times and I've played for more than 100 hours :s First time I heard it I instantly lol'ed though cos I've heard the reference before in films, and lol'ed even more at "Let me guess - someone stole your sweetroll?" in reference to character creation in Morrowind, which was amaaaaaaazing.

I'd logged plenty of hours in this game and not once heard this 'arrow to the knee' line ...

... and I still haven't.

The frequency of the guards' lines is really odd. I've logged over 100 hours and got the sweetroll line about 5 times or so but I can get the arrow to the knee line 3 times just walking around the same town. I actually didn't get the sweetroll reference until a few days ago when I heard it for the first time.

Arrow in the knee line hasn't stood out for me either. They absolutely love talking about Redguard swords, lollygagging, calling me a sneakthief and commenting what i do with my hands tho.

To me the most absurd thing is that in every TES game you get stabbed, fireballed, suffer countless wounds, scorched from dragon breath, get DOZENS of arrows in each knee.. And this poor soul had to forfeit his life of adventures just for a single arrow.. Makes you reflect on the injustices of this world :(

people take the least funny, most annoying, and most versatile quote in a game, and spam the living hell out of it. just get used to it.

For some reason this is what makes it funny to me. :P

Do you get to the Cloud District very often? Oh, what am I saying? Of course you don't...

OP It's like that x15 at least... so how can you not get the reference when it's said every constantly. I must have heard the guards talk about the arrow in the knee 100 times.

Before the patch the Cloud District jerk would follow me into MY HOUSE to finish saying that crap because if you cut someone off in mid sentence they would teleport into a building to finish saying what they were saying then leave. I was like dude get your condescending ass out of my house before I own you...

"You used to tell me how I don't get to cloud district, every time I enter whiterun, until you took a hatchet to the face" LOL.

I've played over 100 hours and i've heard that joke countless times. I just have no idea why its so popular on this forum and on you tube. I don't understand the reference/joke.

It's merely the intellectually impoverished man's attempts at being amusing, mostly because they lack the sufficient mental capacity to produce something original.
I pity you hapless chumps at your fruitless endeavours. It wasn't even comical the first time you had your try at it, all subsequent tries will fare no better.

I shall let you bask in my judgemental opinion;
You are all dimwitted cretins and histrionic imbeciles. Good day.

Someone has probably already asked this but, seriously, have you even played the game?

Yeah i know, but everyone seems to act like its the greatest joke ever. I don't get it. x.x

The joke is that EVERY guard says it, which is weird because it's a pretty huge coincidence that every single town guard used to be an adventurer before taking an arrow to the knee.

Did someone steal your sweetroll, or did you take an arrow to the knee?

I was on youtube earlier, watching videos about archaeology, and the highest rated comment was "I used to be an archaeologist, then I took an arrow in the knee." I just laughed out loud.

It's what I saw a mudcrab the other day was to Oblivion, or what patrolling the mojave was to New Vegas. It's something you hear all the time in the game that's stupid but funny.
