Artwork inspired by an ElderScrolls Creature

Post » Sat Mar 12, 2011 4:24 pm

Hello everyone, I noticed that there was a lack of artwork in these forums, and I decided to post a picture that I drew based on two sources:
A picture I used for reference, and the Oblivion mountain lions I have researched on many pictures(to help me get a better three dimensional view of this creature.)

Here it is: http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af327/Vistariman/TheOcelot.jpg

I know it isn't a mountain lion, but the mountain lion was crucial to making the details right in the ocelot.

As always, I am open to criticism to help me improve in my drawing skills, and I hope you liked the picture. :)

Good! His Arm is a little stubby, but overall very good!

Actually, the stubby arm is pulled and bent upward, and I don't like using dark lines in the inside of a drawing, causing it to look stubby. :D
I noticed that when I finished it, but I decided to keep it that way. :P

The underbelly could use some work, but other than that it's very good.

First impression is always most important to me and your sketch made a pleasant first impression. If you want to create a more three dimensional impression along the extended front leg, emphasize the foreshortening of the pattern markings. That is; they should be narrower in the leg's long axis direction. Even if this is not consistent with your reference, it is an artist's tool that can convince the eye and seem more realistic than realism.

You didn't say you were aiming for anatomical accuracy so I would not comment on that but having been a cat owner for many years, I can say this does capture that allusive cat quality.

Thank you bobg for the advice, and that really helps for I have no training experiences, classes, or teachers for art. I had to just practice 'till I had it right. I will be taking my first art class next semester, and my artwork might improve by the next post or two. ;)

That is a very good drawing for somebody with no training.
Well done.

Even if I went to classes for the next million years my drawings would still look terrible. :meh:

I do not know the first thing about drawing, so I will leave actual critiquing to others. What I will say is that Ocelot is beautiful! Very well done! :goodjob:
