Gorgeous art. I love quicker, looser digital paintings in general. I can't wait to see what these concepts translated to in game :D

1. Sir Fanner of the Bethesda Forums.
2. Red.
3. What do you mean? An Akavari or Tamrielic Dragon?

Fixed that for ya

I love that first picture. The other two are nice, but that first one is great.

To be honest, I wanted to do something like that, but I don't know enough about Dragons in ES lore. :(

I love the art work, looks real good. Prefer some more screens though. I'm eager to see more of the game!

I really like these pieces. I hope Bethesda (via GI or on their own site) releases some great wallpapers.

I'm a fan of the style of artwork like this. I like nice, solid colors, and I personally don't like some high quality images. To me, some well defined images just make it easier to point out the flaws. Rather than capture a scene, it captures a mood, and the model artists use those as inspiration, rather than a blueprint. This isn't something unique to Bethesda. http://www.ff-xiii.net/images/scans/324vip1024527-1.jpg http://www.digitalsomething.com/media/gallery/masseffect2_wallpaper_02_full_1280x1024.jpg http://www.cinemablend.com/images/gallery/s20902/fable_iii_12573548454334.jpg http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/cataclysm/_images/artwork/ss23_hires.jpg http://nerdiest-kids.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/halo3-odst_envconcept-06.jpg.

But the whole point of art is that no one has the same tastes. People may dislike this style if they want. But you shouldn't say that they should have tried harder to make it better. That's not what it's about. It's concept art. It's not going to go up in the Louvre. It's just there to give an artistic direction to the game and a simple color palate to get a theme going.

Excellent artwork!
I can so easily imagine being there, I'm glad it'll be released for next winter .
I shall keep the heat off in the house and play with a blanket around my shoulders to add realism to those cold frozen mountains.

If devs are really reading this - make sure you give us a tent/bedroll and campfire, with a log to sit on when we rest.

This one, on the other hand, looks amazing! This is what they should look like.

And yes, I understand what concept art is, I draw myself, and I do go to art museums, but I don't release my drawings because I don't do it for a living and I haven't done anything I'm 100% satisfied with. If you do something for a living and release it to the masses you also have to be able to speak to those masses. You can't just slap a 'concept art' stamp on it because you only had 5 minutes to do it and expect people to love it.

You understand that screenshot is in-game right?? Concept art should never be that detailed. Concept art is for quick prototyping of ideas. It's supposed to be fast and loose and messy.

Ever heard of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_painting? It's quite common for concept artists to do this.

Concept art is not meant to have a finished look. It's for internal use and conveying and sense of mood and general lighting that will be used by other artists to create characters and environments. Speed is crucial in a production like this.

Thank you ! :) The original pics were quite inadequate for wallpaper.

Out of curiosity, where did you find the links ? Silly as it sounds, I cannot find them on GI.

Pretty [censored] awesome if you ask me.

When I first saw that screenshot 5 years ago I almost [censored] the bed. I thought the world was going to end. Mind = Blown.

That's a screenshot?? That dragon look super detailed and very natural. If that's a screenshot I'm just gonna shut up about concept art and everything else and just wait in endless anticipation for this game to be released

I love the concept art.

It doesn't look rushed to me. It looks like the artist was able to capture the mood and details of the piece with as few strokes as possible. It's very clean. I really dig the style, and I think the art direction of this is about a million times better than that of Oblivion.

Wish they were just a little higher res though.. I need a desktop!

Typical. The masses want nothing but hyper realism but can't understand what the point of impressionism is. When you guys have done this for a living, take a look at it again. You need to take a little time to understand the actual process and purpose behind it before you can hate on it.

I highly suggest you go look up information on concept art and impressionism in general.

It seems to me that most people here like the style, as do I, so stop generalizing... typical though, the masses does nothing but

Actually there are no links to this pictures. Someone posted highres screenshot from the article and I saw that it's address was located somewhere on GI site. So I've substituted the name of the screenshot in the address line with the names of artwork files. ;)

Aaaah, began to suspect a fiddling with addresses. Well, curiosity satisfied.

Helpful, too. I did not see the wolves on top of that Nordic temple, nor the little statues (?) near the wordwall.

That, looks like a PC screenshot! Notice the extremely crisp anti-aliasing.

Yes, it's a screenshot. It was in the GI mag, and it is very clearly not painted. There is also discernible geometry, normal maps, etc. With that said, indeed it looks very good. :)

I believe Xbox Dev units do AA for "free", they're more powerful than actual Xboxes.

Agree with Akhmed. The style makes it look childish or rushed. Could've been a lot better.

And just because it's a 'common' way for concept artists doesn't make it better. Still could've looked a lot better.

I'd rather them use speed painting to have many concepts rather than have few concept arts that they spent lots of time on.
Besides I think the paintings are really great.

Not a fan of the artwork - looks rushed. Or maybe it's just the digital media.

They're obvious production department concept sketches, which by their very nature are rushed and rough.

Originally all Xbox 360's were supposed to do 1280x720 w/ free 4x AA, this was spouted due to the extra 10mb of embedded RAM. One could only hope that it was possible for all games.

By the way! It looks like we are finally getting some cloth physics. Look at this piece of armor between character's legs. Didn't notice it on scans before.

Wow, good catch man. I'd love to see how fur armour looks in a blizzard.
