At first I thought the red bulbs in the nordic ruins were eyes :o

But I see they're just candles in little crevices now :)

Not a fan of the artwork - looks rushed. Or maybe it's just the digital media.

Ever heard of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_painting? It's quite common for concept artists to do this.

Time is money. The whole point of doing this kind of work is to get it finished enough so that it can be used to inspire the team, not so it can be hung up in a gallery. In any case, its essentially impressionism, in which case you purposefully aren't trying to render out every little element in the piece.

I don't see a jungle? The "Word Wall" is covered by moss and clearly in a pine forest, and if you are referring to the catacombs, "nordicruins.jpg," then that is just vegetation that is growing underground. Roots, moss, and things like that. Nothing here looks to be a jungle.

Its clear. The first is an example of these "Word Walls" that were described, where we can find new words for our Shouts. The second, is a Nordic Temple, and if the concept art is any indication there are more than one. Could be an example of what a place like High Hrothgar look like. The last, is a catacomb for Nord Warriors, probably with some ruins above ground too I expect.

Agree with Akhmed. The style makes it look childish or rushed. Could've been a lot better.

And just because it's a 'common' way for concept artists doesn't make it better. Still could've looked a lot better.

I guess it boils down to a matter of tastes then, as I quite like them, especially the second one, which looks almost like a page of a graphic novel. :)

Well, you see that's the whole point... It's not really supposed to look really realistic or detailed.

It's supposed to look the way it does, or else the artist wouldn't have released it?
If you made a painting and it didn't come out exactly how you wanted it, why would you release it to a magazine or the Internet, where millions of people will see it.
Yes, it could have looked 'better' but it's not supposed to.

In the first one it seems like some dragon was trying to deface some nord ruins. Aside from the draconic runes you can also see scratch marks all over the nord artwork.

I think it looks detailed, stylized, and beautiful.

Typical. The masses want nothing but hyper realism but can't understand what the point of impressionism is. When you guys have done this for a living, take a look at it again. You need to take a little time to understand the actual process and purpose behind it before you can hate on it.

I highly suggest you go look up information on concept art and impressionism in general.

1. I see some floating mer/man/creature in front of wall rune (I also see a face on the back wall with what look to be figurines placed about).

2. High Hrothgar (that hole in the center could be the "throat")?

3. I see an ancient tomb with graves covered in Stalhrim! :)

I've seen a man-sized painting done in a minute and it looked amazing, because of the intentionally rushed style of them. These don't look like that to me, and I gave my opinion. Whether they were meant to look as they do has nothing to do with my aesthetic tastes. The first picture piqued my curiosity with that bird-dragon thingy, but in terms of how good the picture looks - it doesn't really do it for me. I don't think there's much point in commending an artist on their work if no one is willing to give a different opinion on it, else the artist wouldn't be receiving a balanced reception of their work.

Not really, it sounds like you don't understand the "concept" of how concept artists work. Their work is a concept - an idea. It is never a finished product. If you think these are childish or half-finished then you should look at more concept art. It's often incredibly loose and stylized to capture mood and the color scheme.

Also, thanks! this is fantastic!
