[Wip] Ascadian Isle Overhaul

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 7:20 pm

The Ascadian Isles shots look great, but what's really got me excited are the Ashlands -- I'd never imagined that dense, dead trees like that could improve its looks so greatly. Any idea what the hit is for using those trees?

Edit: On second thought they all have me excited, I'll definitely be watching this space.

Those screenshots look really gorgeous.
Is the release somewhat soon or will it take a few months?

This question is maybe stupid, but did you place the trees in a way that this mod is compatible with Vality's Ascadian Isles Addon?

Any new Vivec screenies? I really like your project. :)

No new Vivec screenshots right now Im afraid. I plan on continuing on my Vivec canton mesh today though, for the first time in weeks.

Fantastic! I bet that Phal's sun shafts look great through those leaves too!

Unfortunately I dont know if they do, but I sure hope so lol.

No, I dont know. I have alot of random test things in my game and am working on several fairly large projects right now so its hard to pin down what leads to any drop, my game runs smooth though =-).

I dont yet know when these will see an official release. Im working on this, an entire tree overhaul, redoing several regions start to finish, and stil going on a world texture pack, not to mention my Argonia project and playing with a few things for Cyrodiil and Elsweyr. Im not sure when anything will be done. Sorry ='-(

I didnt place any trees. If you install and then Valitys Ascadian Islses addon then you will all my trees in all the places Valitys are.

Something left from the volcano

I had a vision for how I wanted to change the ashlands and this is what came of it.

I understand how volcanic chimneys can be left behind like this and eroded into peculiar shapes, but these seem too spindly. Volcanic formations are usually shaped more like pipes, or teeth ridges. (as you can see from how Bethesda decorated the foyadas in many places) It also looks very peculiar seeing a dozen identical formations grouped together like that, as it makes them feel organic.
Just my thoughts. :)

Yeah, I know they dont look like what youd normally see, but its a video game =-). In game I find them very intimidating, unique compared to Bethesdas rocks, and they keep things hidden very well.

Screenies of Ascadian Isles-The red leaves are for me, theyll be released on request but only if requested, otherwise they will be green. Im more just amazed at how beautiful MGE makes things.

Oh. My. God.

Change all Morrowind. Change all regions, they all need your treatment badly. The detail, how much you put doesn't matter, there is still room! And I like your formations.
:tops:

And Vivec.

PS. Famous volcanic rock formations in Turkey, Cappadocia.

@zackg
I like the fresh alien approach with the volcanic formations - I rather think the organic feel of them is very much what sets them apart and adds back some mystery to Vvardenfell. Out of curiosity, how do cliffracers fair with navigating them?

Those AI trees are looking wonderful! B)

Starting retexturing the ground in a way that the Ascadian Isles dont just abruptly end into random ashlandy areas so the soil is now much more greyish.

Oh, and Vurts grass texture is amazing.

Nice to see that you're trying something quite different with the rock formations, i mean its an alien planet with giant mushrooms etc, so i dont think its out of place, though i think it would look best if its used quite sparsely..

The trees looks nice too, they seem to be quite high? probably a good idea since this will reduce clipping.

Would it be possible to have both red and green leaves
not necessarily on the same tree
although it would be a pain placing them all again

Idk I like how they are. With the shape down at the base like a cone they have a nice little formation when together. I was really trying to emulate the badlands when I made em.

Yeah itd be possible, and itd be very easy.

The areas of the ascadian isles that are right next to ashlands and ashlandy stuff will have half burned, half leafed trees. Moving south and inward, away from the volcano the trees will be red colored leaves and a mixture of sparse green grass and dieing red ashland grass. Moving further south and inward the ashland grass will dissappear and just sparse green grass will be there. This area covers the most of the ascadian isles. Moving to the southern tips, green trees begin to dominate and the grass is much more lush.

So far just Solstheim the Ashlands, and Ascadian Isles. And all the cities therein, of course.

Maybe more down the road but who knows.

These new meshes are absolutely astounding! I don't think Morrowind ever looked so good!

As to the Ashland rocks, I think they are very cool, I mean Morrowind is a fantasy land right? I don't see why they need an earthly explanation.

Keep up the good work! :goodjob:

Those are quite impressive indeed, and while the Ashland rocks aren't necessarily realistic, and do look a little organic, I have to say they're still pretty nice, they give the game a much more alien feel, I'm especially intrigued by what you're doing with the Ashlands, though the Ascadian Isles look very good too. Though, it does somewhat concern me that this mod might conflict with mods that add things or make changes to the world, I don't want to have to choose between this or lots of other mods that I don't want to sacrifice, so I wonder, just how likely is it that it would have problematic conflicts? I'm especially concerned about Vivec, does it alter the interiors of Vivec's cantons or just the outside? Or does it make them open?
