Ash and goo piles remaining behind after killing enemies...

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2016 1:10 pm

This was why I avoided energy weapons in FO3 and NV, this was why I avoided magic that could melt/burn enemies to ash in Skyrim, and it's also why I now have to avoid these weapon types again in FO4... This bug has been around for so long, but they still haven't fixed it... It's so fun having 5 or 6 glowing red ash piles at my door step of each settlement that will never despawn... Or that one goo pile in my bedroom from that ghoul attack on Spectacle island... Anyone have any idea if they ever plan to fix the ash and goo not cleaning up properly? I remember them mentioning it in Skyrim, but never fixed it, and that was 5 years ago...

it was fixed for at least ash piles in the 1.4 update, goo piles should have been fixed also.

You may have to wait outside the cell for 30 game days for it to trigger though

this is a quote from someone else on the forums

As each pile is permanent, each needs to be saved in your save files and kept in memory. More ash, more bytes used in your save and in the RAM storing their data. Bigger save files take longer to save and load, and more RAM dedicated to things like ash piles reduces available resources for everything else. With enough piles in the world you get slowdown and long save/load times. With huge numbers of piles the game would eventually just crash. Each ash pile created brought you closer to those problems - so using lasers in Fallout 3 was not recommended as you could boost your game's ash/goo count by hundreds fairly quickly just playing normally.

Based on...?

Either way, I was told they've been fixed as well with the most recent patch. I still find it odd that it has finally been fixed after so many years of going unfixed for previous games, but I'll take it.

There's also the issue of despawning dropped weapons. If they did fix the ash/goo problem in 1.4 update (as mentioned), that is great to hear!

But what about the annoying dropped weapons issue? I get sick and tired of having to pick up every single weapon just to drop them on a corpse so I know for sure that they'll despawn. In Skyrim, I just used a mod to make it impossible for weapons (and shields) to be dropped.

Oh yeah, that's still a thing. I have to remember my Sole Survivor is also part-time janitor for the Commonwealth.
