Ash piles...

Post » Wed Jul 20, 2011 4:08 am

So it's getting pretty bad on some of my high MB game saves now, I pretty much can't use EW's anymore.
The game makes it very easy to up your crit-hit ratio's and dozens of ash/goo piles are almost inevitable if you use EW's.
I propose that when the devs release the next patch, be it to fix the problems in the last patch or to prepare for LR they alter how these things work in the world.
Not only do they slow the game down but they also have a pretty bad glitch related to them where you are able to access a living npc's inventory via a 'second' access point in an old ash/goo pile.

It can't be just me that this annoys?

Don't they disappear if you take all the items from them and leave the area for a while ?

Where is the "I don't care either way." option?

Bias poll is bias.

Yeah..
Actually the answer to that is fairly simple tbh, if you don't care either way, don't vote..
Of course then that removes the option of making a pointless post, that does nothing except to increase your post count and get you closer to your next all-important forum star..

I asked Jason Bergman about this in one of the DLC topics and he said that it was in Fallout 3 and not a bug....

HOW CAN THIS NOT BE A F***ING BUG?

I'll try and find the quote...

I read that, If remember FO3 had a script what removes ash piles after the player leaves for 3 days but Bethesda neve implemnted it. Seems kinda stupid to leave them around, when the enemy respawns and picpocket them though the ash pile or sometimes if could take to the NPC can talk thouhg the ash pile......

If they aint bugs I dont know what is

the time i tryed to notify the bosses i got beat down .so tbh i think they have a issue with what they belive to be rite and the gamers thinking otherwise.Could be pride or something but honesty this is a glitch a game mechanic that causes issues for ppl and denys them the rite to use a weapon class is not normal lol.Never used energy weapons because of this issue sadly -_-

Atleast i dont have to worry to add energy weapon perks to my max build L?

Which tells me Jason simply misspoke, its either a "bug" or an unavoidable consequence of the engine swaping the body out for a dust pile.

Have you fixed the never despawning ash/goo glitch :fingers crossed:

If we're talking about the same thing, that's not a bug. Fallout 3 functioned the same way.

So no Lord, I have no idea what it is. Oh and here is compatriot LKT's reaction, I agree completely.

What? Are you serious?

ah

ahhhhhhhhhh

Spoken like a true non-energy weapons user.

When you go to places that respawn enemies, maybe you'll understand. Since piles never disappear, they keep racking up. Rack up enough of em and you're doomed

Lucky you I guess. I personally don't have *much* trouble with it, but for some people it can lag the game, cause FPS drops or even crash their thingies.

Then again, problems with New Vegas all depend on how much the game likes you and if the Obsidian Gods smile upon you.

From what I can tell, even with PC & mods, you can't do exactly what you're asking for.

There are a few ways (via mods) to make ash/goo pile issue go away:

1-remove the effect from every weapon (meaning no cool visual effect and no ash/goo pile is ever created in the first place, since EW will just create a corpse like any other weapon), but this entails altering a setting for every energy weapon, which can conflict with any other mod that wants to modify other aspects of said weapons
2-make them disappear as soon as you leave/FT away from the cell (not a normal reset time period)
3-use a script that creates the physical special effect appearance of firing/turning into a pile, but never actually creates the goo pile (the corpse will still be a regular corpse and disappear after the default 3 day reset period)

(edit) thus I'd assume there is some kind of issue with actually creating the pile "normally" and then making it disappear "normally." You can work around it, but it's not something you can just set to 1 or 0 to make them disappear via the normal re-set method.

Far as I know...no.
And some of the mods I've seen have their own little glitches/bugs here and there, still, too.

"In the middle of the struggling battle for survival in the wasteland, Mr Doom sat down and thought about how much ash piles annoyed him."

Was this really necessary? :whistling:

Couldn't you make a mod to erase them if they have no items, if they are there for a set amount of time untouched (1 hr) ?

That's actually pretty easy to do, and is the basis for the mod at the Nexus, but as Lady Crimson mentioned it doesn't work quite as intended.

IIRC the mod uses a variation on the respawn script, where instead of marking them for deletion upon the cell resetting it deletes them once you leave the cell. However, if the target that left it is marked as respawning then the resultant pile gets the same flag, as it replaces the target's 'corpse' state, and this flag apparently overrides deletion calls.

In order to truly make sure that the piles do not stick around you have to remove the 'respawns' flag from a whole host of NPCs and critters. That can have deleterious consequences where certain quests are concerned, however, and as such should only be done as a last resort unless you know exactly which ones are safe to alter.
