Ask Todd Howard About Skyrim

Post » Tue Mar 01, 2011 9:17 pm

So someone on GI asked this question:

Will there be a Lock on Target feature?

And I ask myself, why?????

In all seriousness, my main concerns are with attributes and the PC UI. I see our good friend, Mr. Tissue Box, already asked about attributes for me, and I think a question concerning the PC UI has been asked, so it seems I created an account for nothing.

I hope my (and everyone elses) questions on here get answered. Though I have a feeling GI will only pick the already answered, irrelevant, and/or the stupid questions. Like the one above.

Uhm...

1. Will we see additional travel options/services (Mage Guild Teleport, Mark/Recall, Divine Intervention etc.) next to regular Fast Travel?
2. In Oblivion almost all items were part of a levelled list. Will this be the same in Skyrim or will there be more handplaced loot and nonlevelled artifacts to be found in ancient ruins (like in Morrowind)? Also, will the loot be fitting to the area it is found in (so no gold septims and fresh apples in ancient locked Reliquaries)?
3. Pete made a tweet regarding Markarth and hinted at it being a Dwemer ruin. Yet the architecture does not look like the copperish industrial structures from Redguard and Morrowind. Have you taken on a different approach to Dwemer architecture or will we still see our industrial copper hallways and steampowered machines and guardians?
4. Will the player be able to get infected with lycanthropy and become a Werewolf/Boar/Bear?
5. Will Daedric armor be in the game; and if so will it be very rare (like maybe only one or two full suits in the entire game)? :P

I think those were my original questions, but only slightly better formulated when I made the original post ;)

If you want me to I will post these for you. I didn't see these anywhere in the comments :( My posts are showing up fine.

Here are the questions I asked in my post, if anyone wants me to post some for them ask away.

First of all, thank you Game Informer for allowing us to ask these questions and thank you Todd Howard for being kind enough to answer some of them!

1. Will we finally be able to see our lower body when in First-Person?

2. We saw quite a good number of new books from Morrowind to Oblivion and that was only a six year time jump. Can we expect to see substantially more in Skyrim with it being a two hundred year jump?

3. I notice in the combat hubdate GI mentions when casting a fire spell at the ground stuff catches on fire. Will we see other effects do the same? Such as casting lightning at a pool of water? Or freezing the ground with a frost spell?

4. Are there any plans for Spell-Finishers? Such as freezing an enemy then burning him for a melt effect.

5. Will all perks be tied to skills? If so, how will they work for a skill such as one handed? For instance will there be multiple perks for blade, mace, etc. Or will there only be tiered perks? Or both?

6. Will NPC's be able to perform finishers on us?

Three main things I hope we get:

1) GI ask questions which are sensible questions about the content of the game (not about Fallout or whatever).
2) Todd answers in good faith, and doesn't respond to, for instance, a question about spears with "we aren't ready to talk about that yet".
3) But, relatedly, GI don't ask questions which pretty clearly Todd isn't going to give a detailed answer to - for instance, stuff about MQ and faction storylines, lots of details about dragons, etc.

We don't know. My guess would be something like wednesday at earliest : gotta let enough people time to post, let them the time to sort through all that and decide what they'll ask, prepare the interview, make it... Yeah, earliest.

Not sure if someone asked this yet but here it is anyways - Is combat with dragons only going to be dragon shouts, or will there be any actual combat with our weapons?

I reckon GI will do their best to avoid questions that might spring answers like that. They don't have much time with him, and a podcast full of "no comment" wouldn't look good.

Incidentally, I asked about if they are considering keeping up with making expansions in new places, and if NPCs will have the same fighting abilities (one shot kill with bows, for instance) as us. *shrug* My posts are counted on my profile, so I suppose GI can see them although they don't show.

Thanks for the offer. Mr. Tissue Box also offered to put them up for me, so everything should work out fine. :)

It's a long shot that they'll talk about it this early, but what the heck; can someone ask for a list of joinable guilds in Skyrim?

Someone asked pete on twitter about expansions and he said they haven't announced anything about expansions and they are focused on the actual game.

Was more in the realm of "do you still think that's worth it/interesting to do such a thing" than a direct, committing question. :P Ah well, worth a shot.

I can sorta answer that. In the Skyrim issue of GI he used both. Dragon shout that slows down time then he goes in and stabs it in the neck with his longsword.

Good. I really hope your questions get answered because I had similar ones in mind myself until I read your post.

Well that's good, I was kind of worried about that one.

Updated the op :

Please note that any question about spears, pikes, crossbow and any other sharp implement devised to throw or poke with, has already been asked.

:P

Hotkeys are asked, no worries. :)

Thanks. Can you specifically ask what the other three dpad directions do? Up is favorites but what other functions does the dpad serve?

I'm still a little worried. I would like to say I hope Dragons will be tougher than just slowing down time and stabbing them in the neck, but when I think about it that's a lot more realistic than just hacking at it's legs until it's health drops to 0.

Done. Sorry it took a bit of time, I was away.

Awesome. They better answer his questions! Especially the ones regarding unique artifacts and daedric armor :P

Unfortunately I think you may be right, but lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that there will be SOME difficulty fighting them.

Yeah, I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm sure it will be tough as hell without using Dragon Shouts at least :D

Well then, would someone please post these questions for me:

1. The magazine article mentioned that first person view is HUD-free. Is there really no HUD or can it just be toggled on and off? And if not, how will we know things like how much health we have or in which direction we're going?

2. If there are no transportation systems other than fast travel, why weren't they implemented? Some people don't want to use fast travel, but they also don't want to walk everywhere instead. Why can't we have both Morrowind-style travel, with boats and other services to take you between towns, and regular fast travel in the same game so everyone's happy?
