Ask Todd Howard About Skyrim

Post » Tue Mar 01, 2011 7:44 pm

My comment also didn't show up yet, but here is basically what I asked.

1. Will the environment pose more of a threat to the player?
2. Will there be more options to open locks? i.e. braking them open for combat characters.
3. Will the quest compass be able to toggle on/off? (if there is one)
4. Will there be a larger variety of ranged weapons? i.e. spears or throwing knives.

I'm sure they have all been asked already.

Ugh, I don't see why my comments are showing up on that page. Does it take a few minutes or something? Can anyone see the comments even though I can't? My username there is "Antibody"

Hmm, I wonder why certain people's comments don't seem to appear. I haven't noticed your username anywhere :(

We are many in that case. Some of the newly registered accounts seem to be malfunctioning. By the way, Mankar Camoran has apprised Andrew Reiner of the situation, and he's looking into it.

Our comments number do show in our profile, though. I take it to mean that while they don't show, GI can access them. *shrug* :) Also, I suppose that we will see that our comments are in by the fact that the associated points will be added to the profile.

Someone PLEASE ask this for me (give credit too and post here letting me know you have asked. :D):

Will there be realistic/dynamic lighting in Skyrim, or will it be like Oblivion, Fo3, and NV?; where lights shine through walls, roofs, objects, and there are no realtime sunlight shadows or anything.

"Will there be random giants in Skyrim? (such as giant slaughterfish and ninroot in oblivion)"

I  when I saw this...out of everything you could ask about skyrim, THAT is what you ask. Wow..

Well then, would someone please post these questions for me:

1. The magazine article mentioned that first person view is HUD-free. Is there really no HUD or can it just be toggled on and off? And if not, how will we know things like how much health we have or in which direction we're going?

2. If there are no transportation systems other than fast travel, why weren't they implemented? Some people don't want to use fast travel, but they also don't want to walk everywhere instead. Why can't we have both Morrowind-style travel, with boats and other services to take you between towns, and regular fast travel in the same game so everyone's happy?

Done my good man! :D

1) How will the PC version of Skyrim differ from console versions. It is a fact that the PC right now is leaps and bounds ahead of consoles technology wise.
2) Is skyrim going to use the PC to full advantage or is the PC version of the game going to be held back somewhat because of simultaneous development on all three systems.
3) If Skyrim does take advantage of more powerful PCs, what will be different.

Coverage so far has been great for the actual game. I will get a lot of gameplay related details in the months to come but this issue regarding the PC version is my most pressing matter.

Pete was asked this on twitter and he said some areas will be tougher than others and you may have to come back to those areas later in the game.

By the way just came back to say: If the questions that are asked are as completely stupid as the ones asked about NV*** on the Best Buy live stream, I will probably visit the person who picked them out late at night and they will dissapear to never be seen again.

*** Some questions were;

1 "What is the maximum level you can be?" This was answered like 8 months previous and had been all over the internet since.

2 "Will there be multiplayer?" I can't think of how many times this was comfirmed to be a big NO, but they asked anyway?

3 "Is this an expansion for Fallout 3?" Really Best Buy? You just asked that? Seriously?

I don't remember who won the signed poster and all the cool stuff but it was a very stupid question as well... By god they better do a nicer job this time...

"Ask Todd About Skyrim" really should have been asked on the forums, Some of the members on GI aren't following the Skyrim coverage so they don't know what has been released yet. (this is probably what Bethesda is counting on so they don't have to release too much info, they can just spat out the same stuff until they are ready to show gameplay)

You raise a good point. And one that is probably right. When you consider their monthly coverage has almost been nothing new from what was in the magazine.

This would make sense perhaps right now. But the NV one was done in like, late August, perhaps September? Literally like 2 weeks before the games release when we already knew so much. I could see more generic questions about Skyrim, seeing as its still 10 months away from release. But even then, we already know the basic info like level cap and fast travelling and that kinda stuff.

So that's why so many of our posts don't show. :shifty: Coincidence ? I think not !

:P Seriously, though, if Todd answered our questions, not only would he have his PR shot from now till November, but we would spoil ourselves the game as well in the process. Bethesda's tight-lippedness also works in our favour, you gotta admit.

Well I just think the questions should be asked on a place where people are obsessing and actually following the game

Thanks a lot :)

A nice side effects of us having to ask on Game Informer instead of here is that Game Informer will (hopefully) know their own articles well enough that they wont ask Todd questions that they've already answered. I just pray they wont ask any really obvious questions that they never got around to covering.

What would be the point of that?

Most of the people on this forum are already planning to buy Skyrim. The objective is to reach new potential buyers and generally raise the level of awareness.

The GI site makes more sense, also, this interview may have been a component in whatever overall advertising package Bethesda negotiated with GI.

True, and thats one aspect of it. I also think its because they don't want to release much more info via GI and they are going to answer the same questions that have already been answered in either the hub updates, Tweets or the GI magazine itself.

GAH! Wish I would've known that before I made a well articulated question that was a decent length....such wasted time thinking up the perfect question for nothing. Took me like 30 min to just come up with the question I wanted to ask and I'll probably forget it by tomorrow lol.

IIRC, your question will appear tomorrow and you will not need to post it again.
