Assassin Role developed

Post » Mon Sep 05, 2011 11:51 pm

Dear Tod or others whom it may concern. Please let me be an assassin.

No, i don't mean give me a guild with about 12 short quests. I mean i want to at any time have the thrill of choosing a target, learning about him, getting close to him and killing him. Or her.

Sure, not main NPC's , but somehow, I want to have it as a fully involving role.

Thank you.

PS. Are dragons infinite? or after playing for so long do the run out when you slay them all?

I hope the generate randomly forever, because after many hundreds of hours of gameplay i still want to have the thrill of the epic beast.

The thing about elder scrolls is that you can do anything you want. You dont need the system to tell you who to watch make up your own stories.

^ To a certain extent yes. But i can tell you now that without making a dedicated effort to make the assassin role a full bodied element, it will not be something you could simply create for yourself in the game.

It would just be sneaking into somebodies house and killing them otherwise, which would have huge reprucussions on any number of events, and wouldnt be a lot of fun. I'm thinking varied, but random "missions" that arnt really scripted, and the player still moulds themselves, but the people you can kill arnt important to other things in any way.

For example, i like to play very involvedly, such that i wouldnt kill someone just for the fun of it if i knew them, if i'd spoken to them before or done a quest for them, or if they were part of a local community.

So you want to carry out Dark Brotherhood type missions after the Factions quest line....It is possible. Radiant Story supposedly could do that.

Lord Dreathus
^ yes, something like that. But Dark Brotherhood quests annoyed me because it was usually just a character standing around somewhere. Dungeon, cave - whatever, it wsnt involving.

I know that skyrim boasts a much more, shall we say - real - community life, with people actually going places and doing things, but i wanted to really discuss this in detail to work out how it might fit together :)

Well the DB was awesome for me because you really wanted those bonuses and i tried to do it as stealthy as possible so no one knew it was me. But i agree the targets were boring and really had no life in them. But im really trusting in this radiant story to deliver awesome side quests. And IMHO i think that there is a good chance of assassin missions taking place to kill time. But you know who knows maybe not it all depends on the capabilities of radiant story. Either way TES V is going to be awesome.

The assassin's role is usually well developed in TES. There are always a plethora of "go here and kill this person" quests or similar quests that can be resolved with a stealthy kill. And with radiant AI, just like with Oblivion, everybody has a daily ritual that you can study and learn so you can see when the best time is to make your kill.

I have every confindence that assassinations and stealth in general have been improved.
With this Radiant AI we keep hearing about and more focus on the 3 main archetypes, things are looking pretty good.

I myself will be RPing a Dunmer Ranger-Assassin. :toughninja:

Can't wait! :disco:

I think you will find playing an Assassin in Skyrim is going to be a lot more rewarding than the previous TES games. Think of the fun in reverse pickpocketing someone with poison and other sneak related perks. The option that we can sneak up behind someone and cut their throat, is well, an Assassin`s dream. Previously we had to use the "Deadly Reflex" mod to get that in Oblivion.

I am looking forward to playing the Assassin more in Skyrim than any other TES game

Either you have a scripted hit, like Dark Brotherhood missions or assassin missions in say GTA4 or Scarface; or you do it procedurally (randomly generated). The first one takes dev time away from other stuff so there is a limit. I imagine the mod kit gives enough access to Radiant Story to build procedural assassination missions though. But you might empty the world of NPCs if you did too many.

It may be slow, but the funniest assassinations for me were always:

Step 1: Steal all food from an NPCs house. Everything.

Step 2: Pickpocket any food off the NPC. (Optional)

Step 3: Place a poisoned apple on their dining table.

Step 4: Go to the tavern. Get drunk. Sleep off hangover. Go back to find target dead.

Step 5: Profit.

I think what he's talking about is stalking an NPC for some time, then learn their routine, discover the best place to put an end to its life, and then ambush it...
wether that place be hidding inside the npc's bedroom... or wait for him to leave the tavern and walk by the allay where you lie waiting with your bow...
And if you aren't careful you might end up attacking the week NPC's brother is in town and acompanying him home from the tavern, thus getting cut...

I ALSO THINK HE ISN'T TALKING ABOUT QUESTS BUT SIMPLY CHOOSING A TARGET AND THE ASSASSINATION STILL BEING INTERESTING

well I believe the role of the assassin will have improved. With infinitely improving technology comes infinitely improving and intricate gameplay. And if the game does not satisfy you, you can always mod it.

If you choose a target without a commission you are not so much an assassin as a serial killer...
