Since the game is going to take place in Skyrim do the Dark Brotherhood have a place? The Dark Brotherhood has sanctuaries all over Cyrodiil. Obviously the Dark Brotherhood is still going to exist in Cyrodiil but would they be in Skyrim?

The dark brotherhood is spread throughout all tamriel, this is proven because of their prescence in Daggerfall (high rock, hammerfell", morrowind (atleast mournhold), and according to lore they are pretty big in Black Marsh.

I don't know about you, but I think Assassin's Creed pretty much set the staple for what assassin's should be like.

I loved the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion, but it felt to......... quick. I mean, after a few killings and murders and the like, I was quickly the "Main Honcho" of the Dark Brotherhood. With that, I wasn't even able to continue accepting assignments, which I thought was totally boring. All you got was money from it, you didn't get to organize anything at all.

Which brings me to a gripe that I have with all the guilds. There's just not enough depth too them. I mean, once you became the leader, there wasn't anything for you to do. I played Fable 3, and you spent half of the game trying to become king. Then you spent more time after that playing as king. (Which btw was [censored]. They had said half would be spent on becoming the king, and the other half spent acting as the king. That "second half" was NO WHERE near long enough. But back to my point.)

I just feel that the guilds could probably use more work.

On topic again, I definitely look forward to seeing some DB action in Skyrim, hope there's more length to it this time.

I agree to an extent. I'm playing an assassin type character now (and yes, I do have a bit of the Assassin's Creed thing going with it). It's quite hard work relying on the stealth aspect. You can normally approach a situation and assassinate one or two people, and then end up running or open fighting (hence the Longsword at my side, and plated boots/cuirass).

Throat slitting is something I've been thinking about for a while. You can get a lot of 1HK with stealth eventually given the right skills and equipment, so a fancy animation would only effect the feel of the thing, probably for the better. I think if you have the complete element of surprise then any NPC should be able to be taken down with an assassination, possibly with a dice roll for success (match it to your stealth skill so only Masters have a 100% chance?).

Other general upgrades like line of sight, correct sound detection (allowing to create distractions), etc, would all make stealth more fun to play. And given enough time and training you should be able to also handle yourself in open conflict (just like my Nordic warrior could train in magic eventually of he wants to).

I've seen the word "Assassin" in this thread so many times that Im dizzy. Im even seeing it in my own username now! Oh wait, it was always there..

Anyway; So as long as I shall exist, no Bethesda developer shall dare shun the way of the Assassins. (Especially the Holy ones). :D

After I said that, they're soooo nerfing assassins.. :meh:

What's that? You want overpowered stealth? I vote no.

Not true, if done right. Something along the lines of "higher risk = higher reward". To become a good assassin, you need to put a lot of points in stealth, agility, etc, BUT you have to sacrafice your other combat abilities to achieve that. In the end, you are a master of stealth and surprise attacks, but you're no fighter (Kind of like in Thief or even hitman). Basically if you are detected by a strong opponent... you're royally [censored], but if you manage to land the first blow, you get a one hit kill.

The only problem I see with this system is if they make the main quest very combat heavy and no alternative solutions.

Everybody knows oblivion uses line of sight and light values to determine if you are spotted right. Cause some of you seem to imply it doesn't. But I agree they should try to make the system better. If your still playing oblivion the mod piip makes enemy's investigate sounds made from throwing objects with the grab key, deadly reflexes enables you to slit peoples throats and stab them in their sleep. Sneak penalties is also a good mod that for example makes people look around for you when they go into an alerted stage and acutely punishes you for jumping.

Outfits that conceal your identity would be nice, and more outfits dedicated to stealth as well.

Instakills with stealth would be overpowered.

If I creep up to a sleeping person and stab them, I want them to die straight away. There should be an equivalent of Mr Sandman from Fallout, maybe only for stealth characters.

And while insta-kill stealth might seem overpowered, the alternative of sneaking up and having to batter people repeatedly is massively immersion-breaking. And stupid.

To not make it overpowered, how about an instakill system where you have a chance of failing if you try the throat slit and the person escaping your grasp?

What I'd like, along with a base of some more functional stealth (no "psychics" or any of that), is for assassinations to NOT be scripted. Sneaking in through the basemant, finding a passage in the wall, and untying a fixture at a certain time of day; that's great. Or it would have been, if *I* had figured it out, instead of being told to do exactly that step by step. Or otherwise being told with astonishing accuracy where my target is, what their schedule is, when they are vulnerable, how to provoke them, and what I need to do to keep it secret. It's boring. I want to be given a target and then stalk them myself, keeping watch from a distance, observing their daily schedule, asking around town about them for any useful tidbits about their personality. I want to climb a tree and then kill them with an arrow because I thought of it as a way to bypass their security, instead of just mindlessly following directions like any other chafing fetchquest.

Depends on how it's implemented. A number of people (like myself) would like health in general to be lowered from Oblivion, so that fights aren't who gets hit 500 times and runs out of health potions first. A good stealth kill would be someone caught by surprise, possibly asleep, unarmored, by a skilled strike. It wouldn't be something you could just casually apply to everyone, especially if things like harder security access and getting away with crimes were implemented.

This. Period.

I have always specialized in a more subtle thief/assassin like role in TES games. I'd love to see more options available.

That goes for other archetypes, too. Though fighters don't have much working for them.

Honestly, I never play stealth characters, but:

Complaining about something being overpowered in a single player game when you don't have to use it? Hmm..

Also, I would assume that if Assassination Moves or something of the sort were implemented, they'd be implemented with skill checks and dice rolls, not just an INSTANT S00PER K00L ASSASSUNZ KREED KIL LUL

I disagree. It's fair to complain about that, because what's the fun in having an overpowered skill if you want to use that skill but still have the same challenge you would with other skills. Skills SHOULD be balanced.

I dunno. I always thought the brotherhood was kinda boring. Dark, brooding assassin types aren't my thing. I loved the idea of the Morag Tong, though. Shame they don't have much reach outside of Morrowind. There are two primary things I'd want. One, a guild of killers who don't have a specific uniform. If they HAVE to all wear some silly costume, make it so tht if a guard sees you wearing it, you'll be immediately attacked. Strolling about town in my assassin's gear always struck me as kind of weird.

Secondly, I'd prefer for there to be more politics and to be killing high profile targets. There's nothing terribly exciting about stalking a skooma addict.

Oh. Three, I guess. Repeatable random contracts. It'd be great to have repeatable random jobs for all the guilds (fighter's, mage's, assassin's and thieves'.) Most factions can get away with just a storyline of missions, but those four are basically your job. If you're in the fighter's guild, you're very likely a career merc. You should be able to take a job whenever you like.

While I would love for the Assassin's class to be redone, and I voted that way in the poll, I'm also a realist. This isn't Assassin's Creed and it won't ever be. Only so much can be done, as you have all kinds of skills and classes to make sure are done right. They improved the combat in Oblvion, for Fighters Guild. This year I'm guessing, and I hope, they put some TLC in the Mages Guild and the skills that go with them.

I just hope they make stealth better. Give us some reason to get behind something and run away, and take that psychic ability off of the guards and townspeople, and creatures at that (I mean, what the heck? Combat music still playing after I got out of the dungeon? 3 cells away from the detector?)

I understand you can never get Assassin's Creed style in Elder Scrolls, there's a difference between implementing something in a game and make a game around that something.

I just hope assassins can be... well... more stealthy (and have a reason to change clothes)

Assassins sacrifice strength, endurance, and armor for stealth, agility, and speed striking from the shadows without detection isn't possible when you have to approach combating an enemy in the same manner as a warrior only with a slight bonus to damage.

I basically agree with Rhekarid. Also, as someone said, there needs to be more to do after you get to the top or whatever, in all guilds
