You are correct. It takes one more unit of both lead and powder. That makes the bullet somewhere in the 100gr range and with the same powder load as the .308, it should push the lighter (.308 ~ 160gr) bullet to much higher (~4000+ fps) velocities. That's where the DT bypass comes from.
That's what DLC are for, baby!

I love this stuff, the detail oriented game play elements where there is always something to tinker with, something to tweak, something to test, and that feeling of YEA BABY! when something pans out. I love how just about ANYTHING in the game can be broken down or used intact as a component in another item. I spend literally hours with each character tweaking, poking and reloading the game on occasion lol, not everything works out as planned, but never stop asking "what if?".
Crafting and reloading aside from actually playing the game are my favorite things to do in FONV. I have a mod that adds more details into the reloading aspect of the game it also adds some more materials as drops like powder pistol or rifle, primers any of the 5 types the drops depend on what the adversary was using. If a legion scum is shooting a Cowboy Repeater since it is a .357 the legion scum will drop when killed (the only good legion scum is dead legion scum) so the scum will have some pistol powder, some small pistol primers, and a few .357 cases. Pretty awesome really. I buy up every bullet in the game that can be broken down and then break them down and then remake them even if it is 5mm to 5mm my bullets ARE better even if the game does not recognize it i do and that is all that matters. lol
