[Idea/WIP] Assault on Dagoth Ur

Post » Wed Aug 25, 2010 4:39 am

You know, I've been playing Morrowind on the Xbox since my damn computer is so slow. (Don't worry though I'm getting a laptop next week). But I completed the main quest, and I was thinking:

I become the freaking war leader of the Great Houses and Ashlander Tribes, and for what? Nothing, they don't do anything to help! So I had an idea, while it is very unfeasible to have an actual full scale attack, I was thinking something of an Allies for Bruma type quest, where you get a champion from Redoran, Telvanni, Hlaalu and the more capable tribes (Urshilaku and Zainab). And perhaps the Temple could even send an Ordinator, Vivec could send an Armiger, the Legion could send a champion.

And I mean why stop there, Red Mountain didn't even seem very challenging when it was one person, it felt nothing like an actual assault. So if we have backup, then we better make the opposing side a bit stronger too, adding some more ugly minions of Dagoth Ur.

Of course, the champions on your side all need fancy companion scripts, as well as fleshed out personalities. I'm not too great at dialog, but I can write the character and his personality and someone could implement it, as well as the scripting. But the rest of the work in the Construction Set, and the testing and balancing process is well within my abilities.

So what do you guys think about making the last quest of the game more dramatic?

I think it's a wonderful idea. I agree with you on this one, going through all the trouble of becoming war-leader doesn't have enough in-game effects.

You didn't really touch on this so I don't know your thoughts, but we can't forget that the assault on Red Mountain is not just the final battle of going into Dagoth Ur's Citadel. It's also the many smaller raids to kill the ash vampires and take back Sunder and Keening. So the allies should stay with you throughout the entire operation.

For making the enemy more challenging, I suggest Darknut's Greater Dwemer Ruins(DNGR), which greatly expands the citadel and adds more enemies and puzzles and such. As for organizing and assault, souns liek a cool idea; as long as it doesnt interfere with DNGR.

I think this is a good idea. I'm dissapointed with the way the quest was handled in vanilla Morrowind.

I'm interested in seeing what you can come up with.

Yeah I was thinking about that as well but I don't want this mod to conflict with Darknut's mod, so I'll probably have it so that the allies watch your back as you go into the citadel of Dagoth Ur.

Yeah I don't want a conflict, especially for such a popular mod. A mod like this would be more or less for the Red Mountain exterior.

You could make your mod dependent on DNGR. Then you could beef up and add to the enemies he has there, to balance your allies. Maybe even add some scripted interactions between some of your people and his NPCs, and/or his tricks and traps.
