Athletic and Acrobatics both removed

Post » Mon Feb 14, 2011 2:42 pm

I would think they have both been removed because since there are no minor skills they probably wont want skills that level passively as you play? any one has a thought on that?

I hope not.
What's the joy of being a stealthy assassin type character if you can't jump around and outrun the heavies ?

I think they'll be combined. Possibly removed. I wish they wouldn't be removed though. Most of the realistically joinable skills go under stealth anyway (sneak and security for example, speechcraft and mercantile). I want stealth to be useful.

Still, those skills are less passive than the armour skills which should be removed.

But I want to to swim fast and jump over buildings in a single bound.

Just morph them together and find a different way to train them.(Or just change the exp given)

^I'm not sure what sneaking in the shadows have to do with the innerworking of a mechanical device though.
Just call a skill mechanical- traps/locks/other mechanical stuff.

Or I would combine security and sneak in the same skill for a game.

I really hope that Athletics is gone in Skyrim. Probably the 2nd most useless skill in Oblivion behind Speechcraft.

No, that was security or mercantile. Athletics made you run fast, which I loved.

Couldn't care less about either. And another thing... sneak and security are NOT merge-able.

Mercantile actually has some uses. You'll make more money when you sell stuff. Security was useless because of the Skeleton Key.

Athletics was a terrible major in Oblivion and I hope its gone in Skyrim as Speed can take over for Athletics.

I was under the impression that Athletics was a SKILL more related to Fatigue from running, and Speed was the overall determining ATTRIBUTE for . . . well . . . how fast you ran. Am I just totally wrong here?

No, you're totally right. High athletics made your stamina last longer while running.

There's a sprint button now so not sure how that factors into the equation. Without an athletics skill and no attributes how will it be determined how long you can sprint for?

Wait, acutally you are right... But athletics SHOULD govern the speed you move at. I never liked attributes much... Anyway, the mergeability of many stealth aspects is why I think climbing would be an awesome skill.

I'm sure it will be a set time, similar to Halo: Reach, with perks to make it last longer.

If athletics and acrobatics will gone I will shed a tear. I have picked those two skills almost every time, if they are removed my ninja will have no speed advantage over the lumbering barbarian, especially if attributes are gone too. I hate this push for realism almost as much as I love it, to be frank.

I highly doubt they will remove the ability to jump high.

That is a misconception I see all the time. If they were removed, there are plenty of other aspects in the game that could increase your run speed or jump height like perks or some other system in the game such as dragon shouts. It isn't just black and white that if they remove a skill that it means it's gone and then there is no way to replace it. That's the misconception that makes people think that Morrowind had soooo much taken out even though only a few things were removed and replaced with other things.

Assuming Attributes are still in, I've always thought athletics was redundant considering there's already a stat for speed.

But if they're gone and perks control it, you can still make a big, lumbering axeman and give him enormous speed and jumping, which makes it still more useless to specialise in stealth skills.

Ditto. I kinda hope Athletics and Acrobatics are combined, and increase your stamina as well as increase your speed/jump height/vision distance. But, if they're removed (which won't happen), it will svck big time.

If you can raise your total stamina per level, thus increasing your ability to sprint, isn't that essentially "Athletics"?

@dragonbone + mango 55
yeah these two good ideas.

@above
that must mean you are either below 10 years old or you have the mind of a 10 year old, these two skills mean more then what you think, if two players run at the same speed you are bound to either fight or rush to some one else's aid for help, unless you meant that theres another attribute, if none of these? burn in oblivions high murky water.

If you are an archer being pursued by a large man with a Claymore, it helps to be able to jump to higher ground and put a few arrows in his neck while he takes the long way up to your position.
