We can walk, jog, and sprint, and we'll be able to jump.We don't need athletics and acrobatics really.
How we sprint/jump etc will be down to many factor's.
1: Our build at the start
2: Spells
3: How much we carry
4: Perks
5: Enchantment's

Can't think of more yet,but there is plenty of option's there in my opinion.

OH yes, athletics and acrobatics were useful... to totally screw up your leveling.

They had to go, otherwise you would instantly get to level 25 just by running between two cities, and jumping around to raise acrobatics was pretty silly already.

How to retain the high-jump/dodging? Perks. Under which skill? Does it matter?

Kind of, can't really put it under a alchemy or armourer skill can you?

I'm guessing there will be perks that do not need skill requirements. Or require a certain magicka, health, stanima requirement. Or such.

I can see why these skills have been made redundant.

In Oblivion at speed 100 you could run faster than horses. And it was kind of rediculous. And because running was the only way to improve the skill, I never used horses as they didnt help me improve thta skill, which made hoses redundant.

In Oblivion Acrobatics made you jump abnormaly far. Allmost as If I was flying. And I could jump over large gaps with ease.

Morrowind did these things perfectly.

Theres no need to take these skills out of Skyrim. Just dont make it rediculous like it was in Oblivion.

If they take out Acrobatics and Speed, they HAVE to put in Climbing. Im sick of being stuck at knee high walls.

"uh uh im a [censored] who cant climb over a log"

Not really happy about this. If enhanced running and jumping are available as perks, I'm still not really happy about it, since you'll have to sacrifice other possibly useful perks in order to gain those abilities.

While playing as a Mage in earlier TES games, I can temporarily make myself a fantastic sprinter, or jumper, by using custom Fortify spells. That's a Mage's perogative. If Acrobatics doesn't even exist, that eliminates a whole lot of choice, and area of possibility, for a character.

Sometimes less isn't more. It's just plain Less.

Some races may be faster or more acrobatic than others (I believe the height of your character affected your movement speed in Oblivion). Different body types, if we have them, might make a difference too.

I agree. However, the only answer you will get is http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/6686/tiapft.jpg.

My head exploded like a watermelon when i read this. It's just them dumbing down the game, maybe they aren't completely necessary to have but at least you had the option! + they were my two favorite skills to have in Ob and Morrowind.

i like this not being able to run faster or jump ridiculously higher than NPCs. there's a sprint button now for a reason!
i also don't like players running faster than everyone else because it's OP. i played RIFT and there was imbalance because of running speed! here's how speed went Warriorsi think the sprint ability makes the game much more fun (even though i haven't played yet) and it's much more fair.
i did like JUMPING really high as a kajiht in morrowind though :DDD

Skyrim's perks are skill perks, so we should think about the skills that could have perks that increase speed or jump height.

I think sneak skill can have a leveled perk that could reduce and finally eliminate the penalty on character skill while sneaking.

Sprinting is more realistic than jumping 20 feet in the air and moving 30 mph when your character is jogging. I can't stress how happy I am that they took out Athletics and Acrobatics. Now I don't have to worry about my Nord looking like some sort of physics defying anomaly the higher I level up.

That's why I like the idea of having Dragon Shouts that let you jump abnormally high and sprint abnormally fast. It has a supernatural element to it so it looks like an anomaly by its nature.

Well maybe they add new skill thats has new name and contain merged acrobatics and athletics?
Such skill will describe characters body constitution since there is no more Attributes.

But how would you level that skill? By running and jumping?
That's exactly what they wanted to prevent.

Well how you level your other skill in previous TES games? does not by repeating the same things? why not remove all other skills also then?
They want prevent power leveling in single player game, they must be forgot not all munchkins but there is also roleplayers who are not powerleveling just play into game and see how better their character become while playing not just jumping crazy around, I believe if some one want be powerful he will use developer console or use editor for creating uber items, but not jump all time around.
What will be next, remove modding and console?

Athletics I understand...I mean, how will speed be measured? By perks? Is it a preset speed? What about encumbrance?

But seriously...Acrobatics? I never ever used it. There were places in Morrowind where it was useful...but I think its a weird design choice to make places you can only get to by jumping high. Im sorry folks, but thats simply uninteresting. They want to make inaccesible places, they should be encouraged to be more creative than "drink plus 20 acrobatics potion".

I don't understand people saying "there are perks for it". What skill is going to have perks for it? Are there any general perks? This isn't confirmed

The only use I ever had for acrobatics was surviving bat[censored]-crazy falls and jumps off of hills. There really wasn't much to jump off of in Oblivion, and I doubt there will be a lot of platforming in Skyrim, either.

As long as there is some speed differentiation among the races, or perks to change it (possibly race-specific perks?).

I'd prefer realism over this particular topic. That just sounds rediculous to me.

ahh dont worry im sure there will be perks to increase your speed and just because it isnt governed under a skill doesnt mean you cannot jump im sure jumping will be something you can do it just wont be under a skill

That's the point though... What about Dragon Shouts are realistic? If your character is using mythical words to jump abnormally higher or to sprint abnormally faster, it makes a lot more sense than a perk that just lets you jump higher and run faster without any sort of powers behind it.
