No Athletics & No Acrobatics - Poll Edition -

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:18 am

Ok, so first let me say that I don't mind the lack of attributes in Skyrim. I think the leveling system they've put in place is a lot more natural and I don't see how attributes would have a huge impact in this new system. However... Without speed and agility... Without athletics and acrobatics... Does this mean there will be no way to increase your characters speed and jumping ability? Maybe the "Thief" branch of perks will include some perks that let you run faster and jump higher. Maybe Dragon Shouts and the sprinting ability will alleviate this... But I certainly hope there will be some way to increase your characters ability to traverse the world, because otherwise, I don't see how being a stealthy character will be much fun. No more jumping from rooftop to rooftop? No more water jumping?

Anyways, I'd like to see what everyone thinks about this. Since it's been confirmed that attributes, athletics, & acrobatics are out I only want to put options that seem realistic to implement on the poll.

Personally I like the idea of having Dragon Shouts as a replacement. One that increases your speed and one that lets you jump higher. At stage one the increase will be minimal but you can use it more frequently. The higher the stage (longer you hold the button down) the bigger the increase becomes but the less frequent you can use it. I don't think perks would work out very well, because perks are permanent. You will always jump higher and always run faster. It worked like that in Oblivion but I think Shouts would make more sense. I think it would add a supernatural element to characters jumping 25 feet in the air. And when you don't feel like running really fast or jumping really high you won't have to.

your aware theres perks to compensate right. Any way the are enough threads about attributes being taken out your post would fit better in there.

I would be perfectly fine with the removal of athletics and acrobatics... if there was an attribute to govern it instead. I honestly don't see what skill perks this could logically fit in, so I'm guessingwe just have a set speed and jumping height.

Has that been confirmed? And this thread isn't about Attributes being taken out. That's a small factor to the overall idea. It's about Acrobatics and Athletics and what would make a good replacement for them. Thus the poll having nothing to do with attributes, and the title of the thread.

Alright, I'm pretty sure that it was confirmed in one of those reviews that sprung up this morning that there would be a dragon shout to temporarily increase your running speed.

secondly, as long as we are in fact able to jump I'll be happy. Too many games these days don't have any sort of jumping allowed whatsoever, and now I'm seeing screenshots and a trailer with no jumping, and they're removing the acrobatics skill, and it's making me very nervous.

other: not remove athletics and Acrobatics. some people may not think they are useful but I think they are, and many many people would agree with me. tossing them is just putting down the people who use the gameplay mechanic for no gain.

I would have enjoyed to see Athletics combined with Acrobatics and climbing re-introduced, but removing them is okay as well. They weren't terribly interesting skills, and never had much going for them. I do hope, of course, that there are perks that replace some of the lost functionality, especially for those who relied on it like thieves and other such agile classes.

Great, I don't have to run around jumping all the time to level up my Acrobatics skill! Good riddance I say

I hope not. That would just svck.

I don't care how they implement but I better be able to create faster or slower characters through skill or perks or what have you now.

At least let the different races have different speeds.

i say you run too god dam much in this game and you want to make him faster?not to mention distance. anyways you can always make you dude fast with training, and the faster way would be becoming a vampire or something

Attributes were removed.

Since Bethesda is an awful company which has released horrible games until now, we are unable to trust them and this is obviously a big mistake which they are making on purpose as their past games have showed us.

The above statement is the exact opposite from the truth.

I think attributes were simply removed by name and not by presence (We will probably still be able to modify our character to an acceptable agree in which we find entertaining and unique).

I voted "other" because I'm pretty sure this company knows what it is doing ;p. (Despite me being fine with any of the other options minus the "!")

Would it not fit into the rogue set? I can image o list of perks that alows you to jump higher, jump from a larger height and not take damage, add greater tumbling and dodge abilities ect..

It's not theexact opposite. Bethesda is a great company who makes great games but often makes what many would consider to be bad decisions to change or remove features that detriment the quality of the game (hence all the people who like Morrowind more then Oblivion).

What skill? Sneak? Speechcraft? Security? Marksmen?

No, but perhaps only the Dragonborn should be able to jump 30 feet in the air and sprint faster than a normal person. As in, the Dragon Shouts allow you to do things that even an adept acrobatic could not do. Seems like a cool way to set you apart from all the other would be Dragon slayers. :celebration:

Sneak? I can move and position my self better that the person who does not have these skills as well as being quiet and blending better into shadows. Ther are a lot of perks and I cant imagine all sneak perks being about blending and being quiet.

Now you see this makes no sense to me. I've spent a lot of time hiding from people and sneaking up from them, so now I can win an olympic 100m dash?

Maybe. Perhaps they could add perks AND Dragon Shouts. When I say Dragon Shouts I don't mean you just run a little fast or jump a few feet higher. I mean you run really fast and jump really high. I like the idea of whispering some badass Dragon words and then launching yourself from the ground onto a rooftop. Or whispering different badass Dragon words and then sprinting at an enemy before he can even pull out his weapon. I also like the idea of them not being permanent because if you always jump twelve feet in the air it looks a bit ridiculous. :goodjob:

I'm playing devil's advocate here and I see your point. However I am assuming that within one skil stree ona level up there would be mutiple perks to pick. Within that skill tree I can choose to be a bounding leping type to gain position or the sneaky type or a mixture of both. I think its the equivalent of axes bneing in blunt in OB.

Like I have said before - need more info.
