Athyn and Andas

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:51 pm

So, In MW, I was reading a book called "The Hope of the Redoran". It was about a Dunmer named Andas who was "prophesied" to be the savior of House Redoran, and how his greatness was utterly destroyed by his brother, Athyn. My question is:

Is the Athyn in the story the same person as Serjo Athyn Sarethi, councillor of House Redoran (and if you choose, the sponsor of the Nerevarine thru the Redoran questline)?

Well that could have been just a story or Serjo Athyn Sarethi might have been named after a the real Athyn

One of the rumors in Ald-Ruhn is "Athyn Sarethi may be the 'Hope of the Redoran', but somebody wants him dead. He's fended off three Morag Tong attacks already.'" Or something like that. The computer I'm on doesn't have the TES III CS.

Curiously, the CS specifically excluded Archmaster Venim from ever saying it. No surprise there.

 I'd totally forgotten about that rumor! Guess it probably refers to him. And about Archmaster Venim...so true. :)

I'm pretty sure Athyn is the same one who was mentioned in the book. It could also be said that the Neravar was The Hope of The Redoran, but him buggering off to Akavir while Ald-Ruhn gets turned to rubble makes this seem doubtful.

In fact this was one of the first "mysteries" I posted about here quite a few years ago! And I also think Athyn is the Athyn! Another thing about that book is the mentioning of Shardie as the trainer...now we all know there's Shardie at Fort Buckmoth...and she is a trainer. So could it be the same Shardie?

And what about Hamlof the miner and Hamlof the jeweler? Okay, so neither is in a book, but they do have the exact same name.

This now makes Serjo Athyn Sarethi my favorite character in the vanilla game of MW; this guy's legit, and I respect him so much more than just being a councillor for Redoran. woot.

This does beg the question, however: Why isn't Serjo Sarethi the Archmaster of Redoran? How does Bolvyn Venim get the title?

While Venim may be as vicious as his name implies, all recognize that he has been a strong leader at a time when House Redoran needed one. Even Sarethi says as much and probably voted for Venim at the election.

Same Shardie. It's common for a master trainer to be named in a book that way. (The Black Arrow is the outstanding example of this.)
