ATI 11.4 and Crysis 2

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:44 am

Hi I just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same problem as me. When I run Crysis 2 with the 11.3 I get about 90 to 125 fps on max at 1920 1200. Then with the new 11.4 drivers I get 40 to 60 fps. I have switched back to 11.3 and have no problem. I m staying with 11.3 until this is fixed or am I doing something wrong.

Hey guys,

When you installed the new driver did you check the global settings for forced v-sync? New drivers will sometimes install with v-sync forced to correct flicker issues caused by SLI and Crossfire. If this is enabled and you have a 60hz monitor, that would explain the drop.

Just a thought. Let me know if you try this and it works!

yea that svcks that with AMD you have to use older drivers or roll back and uninstall and all that stuff cuz they cant get their drivers to work right with all those glitches errors bugs they always have. i wish they could really get their act together over in AMD cuz its pretty sad how this always happens with them and all the games

I am using AMD Catalys 10.11 on my Radeon HD5870 Vapor-X and everything works fine in any game ;) Was trying newest but they always cause some problems, so i am finding 10.11 very stable.

Note: Catalyst drivers can be removed by running installation for any Catalyst drivers, manager will ask to uninstall already installed drivers ver.

Maybe but the grass isn't always greener over at Nvidia go look at ATI and NVidia forums they all have the same issues and crap. My personal experience though is that ATI cards seem to last longer. But thats just me, I have burned up 3 Nvidia cards, have never burned up an ATI card but I am sure someone has.

I was a big NVida guy. My last NV card was the 5800 ultra if I can remember and that card was advertised to fully support dx9 but did not. I spend $400 on that and was really mad when I found out. Thats my end to NV cards.

edit: It led to a big lawsuit

Hey this happened to me too! When I updated to the newest version of ATI/AMD catalyst (actually Steam automaticly updated it, which was really convenient) it slowed down all my high end games and I had no idea why, I was starting to think my laptop was overheating or something.

But what it actually was, was, well do you know the ATI catalyst standard settings, they were set back to default from the update, which is 'Balanced'. I had the settings on 'Optimal Performance' previously, so I changed it back to 'Optimal performance', started up Crysis 2, and it run so much smoother!

So it seems when ATI/AMD catalyst updates it puts its settings back to default, which is a pain, because people wouldn't expect it until they actually check their settings. I'm not sure if this is the problem for everyone else here, but it sure was what was slowing my gaming down.

I've got an ATI mobility radeon HD 4500/5100 series with 512mb of video ram, it only gets me by nicely on the lowest settings of Crysis 2, BFBC2, and most other higher end games. I'm thinking about getting a new PC soon, because I don't think you can upgrade a laptop. I'm still on a fairly balanced state of thought between a desktop and a laptop. I know you can constantly upgrade a desktop, but it takes up a bit of room and it's a bit harder to take it to LAN parties. I usually ride to my mates house with my laptop in my bag, I can't imagine riding with a desktop in my bag lol.

I don't change any setting in CCC. Of course you get better frames when you dull it down

Loaded up the 11.4s for a quick run. Can't see any real difference. Used FRAPS to run a certain pattern area and technically the 11.4s have 3 fps higher (so I'd call that a wash). No difference on the 3dmark11 test.

Overall, I can't see any gains or losses.
