ATI Radeon - Anti-Aliasing - I Have Dotted Line Everywhere.

Post » Wed Jun 29, 2011 10:47 am

My rig is as follows:

Alienware
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 12288MB RAM
Hard Drive: 991 GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5670 Crossfire (Dual) *****
Monitor: Dell P1130 21" CRT Flatscreen
Sound Card: Speakers (Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio)
Speakers/Headphones: 7.1 Sound
Keyboard: USB Root Hub
Mouse: USB Root Hub
Mouse Surface:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_rtm.101119-18

As you can see I have 2 ATI Radeon HD 5670s Crossfire going.

I am posting to see if anyone can help me with my graphics. I have installed the DX11 pack and the Hi-Res pack and I still get horrible dotted lines in-game.

I have played around with the ATI Catalyst Anti-Aliasing and smooth vision and it doesn't work. I still have the dotted lines. I have also tried playing around with diabling and enabling the Catalyst ATI with no results.

It would suggest to me that it is the MSAA, anti-aliasing, ansiotrophy, etc.

I have looked under the autoexec.bat in my crysis 2 folder and it says this:

g_skipIntro=0
cl_fov=55
pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov=55
i_mouse_accel=0
i_mouse_accel_max=100
i_mouse_smooth=0
r_motionblur=0
g_radialBlur=0
cl_zoomToggle=1
r_UseEdgeAA=3
r_TexMaxAnisotropy=16
sys_spec_shading=3
sys_spec_gameeffects=3
sys_spec_objectdetail=3
sys_spec_particles=3
sys_spec_physics=3
sys_spec_postprocessing=3
sys_spec_shadows=3
sys_spec_sound=3
sys_spec_texture=3
sys_spec_water=3
r_PostMSAA=2
cl_crouchtoggle=1

This was the only place where I found something that could be opened up and possible changed.

Even with turning the resolution up I still get the dotted lines around say window sills, grates, edges, etc. It looks like hell.

The fan advanced graphics configuration is gone. And I suppose that is because of the new DX11 and high texture packs.

Any help to get rid of my dotted lines is appreciated.

Thank you.

Do the dotted lines appear when you remove any custom configs?

Have you tried disabling DX11 and/or hi-res textures to see if one/both produce the issue?

Finally, any screenshots of the issue? Thanks :)

I'll do you one better.

Here is a video link to where I am currently with my 2nd time around. If you follow the targeting ridicule you will see the dotted lines moving along the edge. The video really only gives a slight example of the problem. It shows it really good along the black gates. It is in the sunlight along the edge of objects, fences, windows, the moving dotted lines really stand out. It is much worse when viewed here on the monitor.

I have tried turing off dx11 and the high rez textures also. Doesn't work. I had the same problem with City Of Heroes until they added a FSAA x2, x4 choice setting. I put it on x4 and it reduced the dotted lines considerably though I had some distance anamolies with their new pack, Going Rogue.

I would say at first glance that my resolution is too low, but I have tried it on 1600 x 1200 and they are still there.

The ATi Catalyst btw makes no changes to the graphics in game at all.

Forget the one I posted above. This one is better. If you look along the edges of the buildings, the glass, and the brick of the buildings, you can see what I am talking about. Dotted lines.

I have had this happen on a few other games but the games have always had an in-game anti-aliasing setting or, FSAA, MSAA, something like that. It was pretty bad on me with Fallout 3, but with the game setup screen, I put the Anti-aliasing at x8 and all the edges are super smooth. Not a dotted line to be seen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6QIbC4y5kk
the video also demonstrates the darkening map problem and this is the first game iv had this sort of problem on
autoexec contains
g_skipIntro =1
cl_fov =70
pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov =70
i_mouse_accel =0
i_mouse_accel_max =100
i_mouse_smooth =0
r_motionblur =2
r_MotionBlurShutterSpeed =0.004
g_radialBlur =0
cl_zoomToggle =0
r_TexMaxAnisotropy =4
cl_crouchtoggle =1
r_ColorGrading =1
g_enableInitialLoginScreen =0
g_useHitSoundFeedback =1
r_DrawNearFoV =70
gfx settings are displayed ingame
hopefully some more ppl can help with supplying data that narrows down the problem

Hell yeah. I was wondering what you were talking about there. The little pieces of black glass. I get them also. Yeah alot of people get 'some' dotted lines, but not as bad as I have had recently. The black glass though is definately a problem.

One last example. You can see the dotted lines under the blue domed thingys along the golden edge, and on the buildings that I point at with the target ridicule in this video.

http://www.xfire.com/video/496660/

I have tried everything that I could and have spent a good 4 hours now trying different combinations involving the ATI Catalyst AI, enabling and disabling it, and playing with the settings in the 'autoexec.bat' file that can be opened with notepad. I thought maybe there was something with the EdgeAA and the MSAA setting but I can't find anything.

I havent got much to add but if your using Xfire to record videos, go to video options and change it to full screen that way it records what ever resolution your playing in and that = much better quality
Heres 1 I made earlier

Xfire needs a serious update which I understand they are working on. I put it on 1/2 size because I get horrible lag with sound and the vid ends up out of sync. I figure it will cut it down a little.

Thanks for the advice.
