[RELz]Atmospheric (Dark UI) Loading Screens - #5

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 10:07 pm

I'll look into it and see what I can see, cheers for the report. Major credit for the beautiful screens goes to all the contributors and Galahaut.

Vac

Sounds good, thanks!

And while I'm thinking about it, let me add one thing my wife and I were discussing last night... I run DarNified UI, not the Dark UI version. As you note in the readme, I was a little concerned that the contrast between the beiges of DarN and the deep reds of the loading screens would be too much. But in practice, we found that the rich red background reminds us both of the curtains in a theatre, making the loading screens kind of like a break betwen acts, so to speak. It's not intrusive at all, and is really a beautiful addition. Just thought I'd add that... cheesy? yeah, maybe... but we like it!

Thanks so much!

Hah, that's a nice way of looking at it. In any case, glad you like it, I'm sure Galahaut (the original developer) will also be happy to read the comment.

In super-great news, I have managed to track down what's causing (some of) my textures to be corrupted, and even better I've got a workaround. It's a bit clunky, but it works just fab and that means I can get back to my mod work that requires textures (which is quite a bit of it). I'll try and make another (larger) update to ALS and then set about working on a few things I've promised previously and never got around to delivering.

Greetings Vac,

I've been running the random quotes version lately... and it is absolutely beautiful, by the way! Anyway, I decided to switch to the no-text version for a while, just for a change. Unfortunately, I ran into a nasty CTD trying to load any saves with the no-text ESP active. If I just import graphics from it in WB, no CTD... but of course, no nice loading screens, either!

The only thing I see right off is that BOSS (the 06-06-2010 update) put the no-text version much further down in my LO than the random quotes version. That may be fine and have nothing at all to do with it, but that being the only difference I see initially I thought I'd mention it.

Anyway, the screens are gorgeous, and I have been very happy with the random quotes version. Just thought I'd let you know what I ran into.
Thanks for this!

I should note (for Vac) that two other people reported a similar problem with the no text ESP back in March, but back then I didn't even have OB installed, so I couldn't/didn't look into it. The comments (which are a little short on details) are on TESNexus about a page back (at the moment). I'm not even sure what could cause a CTD-on-load (every time) in a mod like this.

Sounds good, thanks!

I... have taken a look, but I'm really not seeing anything obvious. I'll continue looking, see if I can figure anything out.

I've got another 50 loading screens made. Galahaut's been linked to them and if he gives them the thumbs up again then I'll set about releasing an update asap. That also means anyone who noticed some graphical glitches with the new screens in 3.60 will be happy to know the problems I was having have been sorted out.

Apologies for the double post, but I believe it's worth the additional post. I've got a gallery up for the new loading screens I make. It can be http://www.myalbum.tw/Album=ZZA8EWYR. If anyone has any feedback on the gallery or the new screens, just post it here.

Galahaut's given me a thumbs up on another 50 screens, so I'll try and get a release out asap. Might be a couple of days though: depends on how much spare time I manage to scraqe together.

Very nice, Vac! Some really killer Obivion realm shots in there. Still loving this mod, BTW!

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8958. Get it while it's hot!

50 new screens added, all by myself, I'll update the first post shortly and then get the new screens uploaded to the gallery soon.

Edit: I did both of the above a while back, some of the http://www.myalbum.tw/GroteFoto-HYOYI3BQ.jpg http://www.myalbum.tw/GroteFoto-ZXGU4WYJ.jpg http://www.myalbum.tw/GroteFoto-NUCQTZC4.jpg http://www.myalbum.tw/GroteFoto-EDFWNL6T.jpg http://www.myalbum.tw/GroteFoto-ZYSIPQOD.jpg, even if I say so myself.

Where's a good place to upload 7z-files? I have amassed some screenies (Eslweyr mostly) and am offering them for use by you in this mod, Vacuity. Not sure if that SkyDrive thingy on Hotmail is worth the try.

Vac used to use http://www.4shared.com/ when he uploaded stuff for me. I've used it too and it works reasonably well.

(Also, Vac, ~50 screenshots from me will be coming soon. Revenge! :ninja: )

4Shared has (mostly) always worked out ok for me. I've got the pics Galahaut, downloading them now. Thanks!

That means I've now had screens contributed by Daemondarque and Galahaut. A few other people have offered screens and I look forward to seeing them: there's no such thing as too many (as long as they follow the guidelines).

Vacuity,

Ive just packed together 60MB of pics, and have probably another dozen or so to add. Is there anything else I need to provide?

A download link? :lmao:

No seriously, that's all I think I need: suitable pictures.

I do like the latest version - haven't seen the odd tan one slipping in like in previous versions.

And recently switched to random quotes now that I'm certain I've seen the game rules replayed in my sleep.

My only issue with these is the size. My monitor is 28" and as such the screenshots seem small compared other full screen variants (even the Dark UI of Trolf's version is much bigger).

Actually, I might agree now, since my new monitor is 25''.

Unfortunately there really isn't any easy method for redoing all the existing screens. Hmm, maybe I could collect some of the best loading screens and redo them in full (or larger) size as a separate pack.

I am going to get a 24" this month, so I would appreciate a nice update like this. I really love this mod though. The size of the screenshots probably will not bother me. I would want to have the large pack mixed in with the rest. I am trying to stay calm after seeing the update. Going to download it now! ^____^

Thank you to all the collectors and the screen capturers!

I'm on a...well...sig...and I'm still quite happy with the loading screens. I also used to use them with Darnified UI (non-Dark original) and agree with vegtabill in that I viewed it along the lines of a stage curtain during intermission--never really bothered me. I've since switched over to DarkUI'd Darn, so extra bonus I suppose :)

Slowly working up my own collection of screenies...just played through Windfall my first time (<3) and had some nice screenies from there.

Well, I'm not sure how I would set it up yet (or even if I will do it at all). I could just make it a texture replacer for the existing small-size loading screens. Or it could be an addon (new screens, no originals replaced) that could just be loaded alongside ALS (or Trollf's replacer, or whatever).

Oh, definitely nice to know the screens still hold up well on a monitor almost double the size of what I originally created them on. :foodndrink:

Unless you were to upload resized versions of the existing screens those would overwrite, I would prefer an add-on that could run alongside them. Whatever you choose to do, even nothing, I'll be happy running this mod. I love Dark UI, the original textures, too much. This mod is a perfect extension for my setup. ^___^

First thing to mention is that anyone using a DarN UI variant should probably take care not to choose the "DarNify loading screens" option: it makes the screens even smaller as I remember.

Second thing is that I've got no problem making bigger versions of the screens I produce, but I'm a little concerned about how it works out for everybody. Does anyone know offhand what resolution Trollf's screen textures are?

I don't think there's a serious problem for me to go back and re-make larger versions of the screens I've made thus far, the problem is with the 1600-odd that Galahaut made previously. It'll also be a little strange to have a mix and match of larger and smaller resolution screens.

Where is this option?

I know of the Darnify books option in the bashed patch, but not the LS variant.

thanks

Well, the textures are of course 1024*512. Troll's frame + shot seems to be about 690*390. In ALS the frame + shot is about 615*330.

In DarnUI?

Do you mean in the bonus tab of the inventory/character sheet in-game or do you mean as a setting on an xml file that I would likely never see or recognize?

Galahaut & all - thanks for looking at bigger versions.

The image size in Trollf's is 660 x 360 (without the frames).
I have been using both styles together, and it really doesn't look as bad as you might think, as long as the background color is the same. Since 1600 is a lot of work, I'd be tempted to just make the larger-size images an optional add-on, and let people decide for themselves.
