[RELz]Atmospheric (Dark UI) Loading Screens - #5

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 8:11 pm

take care not to choose the "DarNify loading screens" option:
This option is available as one of many in the omod install of DarnUI. If you're not sure what you chose, you could always try reinstalling your UI and make sure you don't select that option this time. Maybe it'll make a difference, maybe it won't (if it was already not picked).

So Galahaut, any idea where we're going to get a larger knotted frame texture? Or are we just going to blow up the old one?

Since 1600 is a lot of work, I'd be tempted to just make the larger-size images an optional add-on, and let people decide for themselves.

Well, it would actually be something more like 1300, for reasons some people may be aware of.

Working on that right now. Not sure how it will turn out though.

Edit: Hmm, a quick free-transform hack job http://lh3.ggpht.com/_hZKne9J87h0/TC1lTBLdPQI/AAAAAAAAJPY/-pRBQlh0Heo/load_frame_template_big_example.jpg actually. I'll try it out in-game later and see how it looks.

Hah. Yes, I know that one. Fair do's, though it's a shame.

Sweet. Once you've got the new frame looking good, I've got no problem using it as a standard from then on and remaking the screens I already made to use it. We'll see how things go from there.

Okay, the new (larger) frame looks fine in-game as far as I can tell, but the text starts right about where the bottom of the frame is. I can send you over a small test ESP (+ textures) I made if you want to see.

Simple solution: The "large frame" addon is made purely no-text.
Less simple solution: Someone (not me) modifies the loading XML to move the text down even more...but even then the text might not fit (longer quotes and original tips).

I can probably edit the xml... But the longer quotes and tips could be a problem. I suppose the only way to find out is to test it out. Send me the files, I'll take a look sometime this weekend.

On their way. I just noticed that Trollf seems to solve this issue by having his frames moved towards the top (instead of centered), so that's an option too.

Just checking in as we are discussing load screens over at the Mesogea forums. Once the load screens are done I was wondering how difficult it was to replace the text.

Easy. It's just simple ESP editing.

No problem, Karithian. I had to figure out how to do this for my Loading Screen design experiment yesterday, so I can do this part of it with no problem unless Vacuity already put your quotes in there. I was wondering if you had given him some Mesogea-related quotes in addition to the screens or not.

Sorry, I had to reinstall my OS a few weeks back and still haven't got around to getting everything up and running properly = no mod progress on anything in the last few weeks. If I get to buy those extra SATA cables I need tomorrow then I might get things running again fairly shortly...

Well, you can't rush perfection! I don't think there is a huge rush since we are still building stuff, but I can't speak for Karithian. I'm sure he will appreciate your help with this.
I can't wait to see what you guys come up with. You guys have been the inspiration for me to try to make my own Loading screens. I've been toying with making my own Loading screens replacer, but mine are more inspirational from a modders perspective and so far consists of real-world ancient ruins and wonders. I've never made load screens before and just have GIMP2 to work with, so it's kinda experimental for me, and should have no bearing on what you guys contribute.

I just realized that I have your screenshot mod 3.65 in my regular Oblivion play folder and seems like I have enjoyed it for almost a couple of months now (I must have got it right at release). Thanks for making these Loading Screen mods, as I had gotten tired of seeing the same old screens, and these have been great! I love the variety, and my favorites are all the ones with the ships. We need more ship meshes with unfurled sails, though! Not sure if they even exist, since most of the Cyrodiil ships are sitting at anchor...

Keep up the great work, maybe I'll read up on how to make submissions and send in some of my own screenshots sometime. :)

EDIT - oh, and sorry to hear about your OS issues, that can be an annoying and time-consuming process. There are many days when I dream of Uninstalling my OS (Vista) and replacing it with something more like XP (probably the last Windoze I actually liked somewhat.

I like the themes except for the "Lost Spire", because it doesn't fit in with the rest of the other themes imo. :)

That's great if there is gonna be an option for a normal mod setup (esp+bsa) instead of an archive installation with only *menu* files. A bain-friendly package or an omod version would be nice too.

Thanks for the relz Vacuity. :celebration:

Hmm, a quick update seems reasonable.

I got my extra SATA cable and got everythign working again without issue (curiously, my Oblivion rebuild is crashing a lot more than it used to...).

I've made a mockup of a larger frame for the loading screens, which will give bigger pictures in the loading screens, and Galahaut's given the mockup a thumbs up. So, now I have to make a "perfect" version of that mockup and then start (re-)making loading screens again.

My apologies for the slow timeframe everything is getting done in...

I think I'll contribute some screenshots, and perhaps an alternate text ESP as well. Though, the latter will likely take some time, as the last time I tried that (with only vanilla loadscreens, no less) the CS died horribly. My alternate text would be along the lines of humor/bad advice.

Screenshot-wise, I can do:
Midas Magic
Paradise
Dreamworld (since this is relatively easy to get to it should be done before the weekend's up)
Unique Landscapes - Lost Coast and Colovian Highlands
Malevolent
The Lost Spires
Benirus basemant (I have a Benirus-altering mod, but its changes don't fully take effect until after the quest's done)
Any of the DLCs except Frostcrag (I use Frostcrag Reborn)
Snowy/icy locations (among other things, I have an iceberg in my mod list)

And if you don't have them already and are partial to the idea:
Ayleid Steps
Kvatch Reborn
Auriel's Retreat
Vision Resort
AFK_Weye

Let me know what you want me to do, apart from the Dreamworld stuff, which I'm already working on.

Sounds fun, but I'll warn you...making a new text ESP is a lot of (potentially tedious) work. Good luck if you go through with it, though.

Great! I'm actually not sure we need many more screens of that (original) basemant anymore...so that mod might be useful, actually. An iceberg will certainly be interesting too. Finally...Frostcrag Reborn shots would be great. I was using it awhile ago but didn't really get too many good shots from it. I'll probably work with Vac to revise that list again soon.

I'd love some additional Ayleid Steps shots...I had only gotten partway into that mod in my previous playthrough (like...the 3rd quest I think?) so I didn't have the opportunity to get many shots. I'm not too familiar with the other four, but if you get some good screenshots from them, that would be great. The more mods represented the better.

Additional shots of any type (following the submission guidelines) are always welcome.
I've got a fair stack of Ayleid Steps shots waiting to get made into loading screens (if you pay attention you'll notice that there are existing screens of places like Ayleid Wells with steps on them in the current version, and actually a few shots of some lost dungeons). But as different people run different texture packs, lighting systems, and these days different shaders from OBGE, it's pretty easy for two people to get quite different shots from the same location, so don't worry about that.

The other mods I don't use, so they'd be exceedingly welcome: I think I'd particularly like some more village/settlement shots, but as Galahaut said, we need to go over that list at some point.

I've finalised the new loading screen design at least, so that's a major step forward.

Well, I've got some done, but...well, PNGs are pretty much lossless, but they're also pretty much impossible for 7zip to compress, apparently, so I'm going to have to send the first batch already.

It's mostly Dreamworld, but there's a few shots of bridges and one picture of the start point of a nonjournal, quest-based flying castle house (though the enemies are too high level for me so I'll have to wait a while to do more on that front). It's been raining in my game pretty hard for a while, so it's darkish and rainy, but I think that rainy shots were considered desirable, so...meh. One or two have the UI in them by mistake, and one of the dreamworlds has a first person torch + some silence particle effects, but you can probably crop those out without losing too much.

Also, not having to do Ayleid Steps is great for me, since I haven't really started with that quest line at all (???)

One more thing: BrumaNightChimneysRain is actually a shot of Bravil. Stupid similar names. -_-

But I digress. http://rapidshare.com/files/417066056/banjo2E_01.7z.html

Banjo2E: Finally finished downloading the shots, and most of them look really good. The ones with the UI don't seem like they'll be a problem since in both cases the interesting part of the shot is towards the top anyway.

Thanks!

No problem. Actually, I've been playing through, and I'm going to get started on some Lost Spires guild hall shots. This is kinda important, because Lost Spires actually includes its own (vanilla UI) loading screens, and Atmospheric doesn't overwrite them as of yet.

Yep, I've been considering making a replacer pack for them for awhile. There is a http://www.lostspires.com/misc/LSDarkUI01.zip, but it just changes the "background" and leaves the image inside the frame in the vanilla style.

At some point I'll probably go through and see what ALS screens match which Lost Spires loading screens and then work on grabbing shots for whatever we don't have covered yet.

I think I already got at least two of the original screen angles approximately covered (like the Malevolent Zinj). I'd need to compare the screens to be sure they really match, but I remember trying to replicate (better) those shots specifically when I took them.

Most of this batch is from Aureal's Retreat, which is this really big alternate worldspace island mod thing that honestly is more art form than actual playable world, which...is actually just fine IMO. To the right of where I took the island photo is a giant tree but it looks really crappy from just about every angle other than right below it because its distantLOD mesh didn't get rescaled, and, in fact, is two-dimensional. It leads to another part with more prettyfullness but I'm not strong enough to go up there and it's filled with giant Dwemer (lol). Which is a shame because the treetop land is even better than the island.

The water path photo was supposed to be sunset but I wasn't fast enough to get there in time. The sun was barely visible in my game as I took the photo, but it didn't show up in the screenshot. Still, twilight's also pretty cool.

Also a totally awesome Bravil cathedral shot and a picture of the AFK_Weye version of the titular town as seen from the north point of the IC Waterfront.
