"Atmospheric" mod list help?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:52 pm

Hey guys, I'm currently trying to improve the atmosphere of the game through mods, and I'm here asking if any of you could suggest some decent mods that do exactly that.

Not really anything that adds new content or changes the game play necessarily, but sound/texture/lighting/other mods that will help me feel as if I REALLY AM some random guy wandering around in the wasteland, who's about to be beaten to death by some [censored] with a broken hockeystick or something.

I currently have:

Fellout-- http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2672

Realistic Interior Lighting-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9250

Megaton Lighting Overhaul-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7875

Fallout Street Lights-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8069

NMC's Texture Pack-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12056

Megaton Texture Pack-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1662

Rivet City Texture Pack-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3612

Terrain Pack-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=774

Terrain Pack (Rocks Addon Pack)-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=866

GNR: More When That Came From-- http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1418

CONELRAD 640-1240: Civil Defense Radio-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6104

Tenpenny Tower Radio-- http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7236

DCInteriors Project-- http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5573

Any suggestions or advice is welcome, and appreciated.

Well right up there with Fellout should be http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10607 - I liked Fellout but it was always the same. Dynamic weather is constantly changing and it is very atmospheric.

Then I've recently got into adding
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13303
and http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7804
There are options to set both to intense or very minimal (what I chose) they make the sistant land not so bad - give lots of depth feeling without being this in your face shader with some Oblivion mods and shaders.

Are you interested in sounds - there is two great atmopsheric sound add ons that bring a lot of distant noises and such.

Then also there are weather and landscape overhauls - several to make the world green, desert like, or frozen.

I don't understand the inclusion of location and radio mods but to each their own.

Excellent, this is EXACTLY the type of stuff I'm looking for. Especially the sound/weather/DoF mods. Thank you.

Would you mind giving me the names of those sound mods you mentioned, as well?

A few others I like bu smaller in scope:
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14248
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7319

Then by searching the word sound on nexus you will find several overhauls of gunfire sound and also general game sounds redone - those are more about preference. Sorry no time for more maybe later.

Thanks, I had not checked to see if Dynamic Weather was updated.

Good: I see there is an update from August. Bad: I've got a mess of files to re-figure out to get the full weather effects.

If you want atmosphere get rid of the street lights. On the grid power has been dead for 200 years.

Get some grass that should be in the fellout section. It wont change all grass. Just some so it looks like normal living grass with some dead.

More where that came from is also rather bugged. Some guy is claiming to have a fix for a few things as of a few days ago. Maybe its true. Worth looking at.

considering the BoS and Enclave still run around, it wouldn't be that big a surprise if they had some power up and running. it doesn't take much to power a light bulb.

Try Wasteland Wanderers if you're looking to add more NPCs to the game. It's not crazy to think that there'd be more people about 200 years after a (nuclear) war.

You also want to try Mez's Gameplay and Immersion modlist, here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1056342-mezs-gameplay-and-immersion-mod-list/

It has all the immersion mods you can possibly want :)

I'll echo the recommendations for Dynamic Weather and the mods on the aforementioned modlist (even if it's based around using FWE, which is more a matter of taste than immersion).

Yeah but there wouldn't be grass that has been dead for 100 years either. That would have all disintegrated.

Nah I think there would have to be some rain - with radioactive seas and oceans and maybe even rivers the only source for water would be to collect rainfall - plus as stated the game comes with grass. I think that implies some rain.
So [src="http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6170"]Enhanced Weather Rain and Snow[/url] (required for Dynamic Weather anyway) ... and [src="http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7137"]rainbows[/url].

As far as the grass goes http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1214 has to be the best one I have used. IMO, those other grass and tree mods make it look too much like Tamriel.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2655. I was unhappy with how the Pip Boy flashlight worked in the vanilla game until I found this

If you are not running http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8340, then you should

The next two I just love together- http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=274. and http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1789

I'm sorry, but in the real world, we have grass that grows but remains yellow due to lack of water. Naturally, a desert environment could still have a fair bit of green grass, but I've yet to see a mod that does it right.

I beg to differ. While water does evaporate under the sun, it does not need to rain often for the water to sustain itself. After all, the Wasteland isn't very cloudy. It likely isn't very humid there either, or everyone would be complaining about the heat. I think it's fair to say that rain in the Wasteland is rare, at best, and that the reason the rivers haven't dried up is because they connect to the tidal basin, or whatever it is.

Also, I hate rain. But less about that.

As of 1.21, Fellout changes the weather quite a lot also. Not as much as Dynamic Weather does, but then again that's the whole point of Dynamic Weather ;)

Good to know. FYI, the Readme link on the Nexus is for version 1.1.

Great suggestions, guys. I'm using alot of these right now, and they look really great. There's one more thing I want to ask about, though...

I want to make the game feel more "Mad Max"/"Road Warrior"-esque, are there any particular atmospheric mods that help with that?

Edit: Also, its there a way to make Dynamic Weather rain less? I don't know if I did something wrong, but for some reason with this mod installed I get rain literally every day. It's as if the game's based in Seattle now, rather than D.C.

You may be hardened to think grass wouldn't grow because of lack of rain. But despite that crazy notion. It would rain as much as any other time like normal. The water doesn't magically disappear. You see clouds everywhere. Water too. It rains. The only reason in game that it does not rain is because the games engine svcks for such things and was not added.

Also the enclave is not that set up to go from light to light and install new bulbs and wiring underground for the street lights to work. I do not know any light source that would with stand an atomic blast(apart from starting fire...but that is a moot point). The buildings have light from car batteries and generators used or turned on by people mutants or the like etc. Any other place is just silly "OOPS!!" effect we must try to ignore XD

Not meant as negative. Just explaining and it helps for immersion =)
