atmospheric sound effects.... distant howls of wolves etc..

It would add a LOT to immersion.

im using a mod like this for morrowind atm and It makes the game a lot scarier when walking the wild at night.

google atmospheric sound effects by duncan to check it out.

I hope skyrim has something similar.

new vegas had the right idea with the distant gunshots.

New Vegas also had plenty of coyote howling at night.

Yeah, night should be scarier than day, with Owls hooting and strange animal growls and screams.

hopefully if we hear a distant howl of a wolf there is really a wolf in the distence and not like in some other games where as you can har a gunshot but no npc really fired a gun.

Yeah, I like the idea but I would prefer for there to actually be things off in the distance; if you hear a wolf howling you should be able to find it within the surrounding area. Red Dead Redemption had an absolutely awesome atmosphere; the game world felt so alive because it really was. Every noise you heard was caused by something that was really nearby, really moving, and you cold go and find it and kill it if you wanted.

I do hope that Skyrim makes better use of atmospheric sound effects too, not just for outdoors, but for dungeons as well. I like the ghostly whispers you'd often here in Morrowind's tombs, for example, or we could hear sounds like dripping water, crumbling masonry, or distant moans or howls.
