Check out what I found on the web , I know about half of the gamers out there have already seen it but it still amazed me when I found it

An actual concept car that was to be made by Ford. Any crazy millionares out there , please make this .

That might be cool. If it was made in the 50's, the Reactor could blow up in their faces (literally). They'd have to have top-notch scientists.

I'd drive that for two reasons:

- It's quite possibly the most unique and creative design I've ever seen in a sensible car chassis
- To piss off any tree hugging imbecile that has enough arrogance to condemn nuclear power as well as whoever was responsible for the downfall of the Atomic Age as a whole...

One and the same.

But that discussion would skirt the line on verboten real-life politics...

man, but can you imagine if they didn't explode?

the griping on these forums would be intolerable...at least slightly more intolerable

Well they are 200 years old so it might be a bit unstable.
And if I remeber corectly the Japanese are making nuclear powered race cars. I also remeber that they`re planning to get everyone driving nuclear cars eventually to save the planet.

What you seem to be forgetting is Cars in the Fallout universe are FUSION powered. The fuel used in those are generally inert for the most part. IT would be liek shooting water and having it explode.

Are you kidding? The Japanese are so [censored] afraid of nuclear power it's sad. They flipped a [censored] when there was a fire on he USS George Wasington, heading to japan, despite it having nothing to do with anything thinking about maybe someday trying to wander near a reactor. They won't let us dock trident subs there either.

Radiation leakage is the main problem not explosions, on an industrial level I figure we have the safe guards in place to use nuclear power safely these days, but on a civil level as power sources in vehicles where car crashes happen every day somewhere in the world, your going to need some pretty thick and heavy shielding, the car will weigh a few tons and be very bulky.

i saw that car in a TV show before. It was Modern Marvels Failed Inventions. saddly due to dont know where to refuel and it's a rolling reactor the car never make it pass the 3 foot model stage.

think of the world today with atomic cars. those terrorist will buy tons of them and crash it everything in the world that they hate.

For sure call me a left winged hippy but I'm glad there aren't any of this things in our REALITY, even If they say they might be indestructible, Im sure that they also said that with Chernobyl, so far for being industructible.

No there are lucky more alternatieves than Combustion and Atomicdrivin' cars by now, who are saver and healthier for the neighbourhood.

Not to mention how large this damn cars are with there atombomb on the backseat, no I'm by far lucky it stayed by a concept model.

They don't let us dock trident subs there because they have issues with what they see as "First Strike" weapons systems. (Trident is a missile boat)

Nuclear cars would be amazingly impractical..... and incredibly heavy...... the needed shielding, and safety systems to prevent a boatload of mini-chernobyls would be prohibitive. An interesting idea, but, until technology takes some major leaps, we aren't going to be seeing them any time soon..... Cold Fusion is where its at.

Atomic - fusion powered - cars... A trademark of Fallout Universe, but not very practical in real life IMHO.

A more practical/logical idea would be fusion power plants + electric cars rather than atomic-electric ones.

Think (in very broad terms) of steam locomotives vs modern electric ones - the coal in the second case is burned in the powerplant, rather than onboard the locomotive ;)

I'm pretty sure it's not a matter of stability as how the reactions work and what is needed to set off an actual nuclear explosion, nuclear cars might not be good for your safety after sitting around for a long time, but the problem would probably be more along the lines of radiation contamination, which is still pretty bad, but it doesn't make mushroom clouds.

But anyway, I agree it's probably an impractical concept, and not safe, not because its viable to go up in a mushroom cloud, but because if something happened to cause a breach in the reactors shielding, like say... a car accident, you'd have radiation leaking all over the place, not exactly something you want, because unlike in Fallout 3, you don't have drugs that can instantly rid you of radiation poisoning.

Everyone know's that Ford did make the body, but they decided not to put a reactor in it for two reason.

1. Could not fit a reactor inside.
2. The radiation would have been blown out the muffler or could drip onto the ground.

Apparently anyone doesnt count those who know the smallest bit about how radiation works.

Radiation does not drip. It is not a fluid. It "Radiates" (hence the name), exactly how depends on whether we are talking about Alpha, Beta, or Gamma Radiation, but none "Drip", and I'm fairly sure dont pose a threat if they hit the road. Alpha and Beta particles wouldnt effect the driver or its occupants, Alpha paricles can be blocked with paper, IIRC Beta particles need a little more, but not much. The threat would be Gamma Waves (and X-Rays), which arent even a particle, much less a liquid that could "drip". You need something dense, like lead, to stop those.

Nuclear waste is another question, as nuclear waste emits radiation, that is a protential problem, but I do not know if it was a problem in this specific vehicle design.

You cannot commit Bioterrorism with a nuclear bomb, much less a nuclear car.

Bio means "life", to commit Bioterrorism, you need something that is alive, or was alive. Anthrax letters are Bioterrorism, as Anthrax is a disease. Biofuels are "bio" because they were made with "biomatter" - Stuff that is (or in the case of fuels, until very recently was) alive.
