Atronach Perk + Circle of Protection = Awesome Sauce

Post » Tue Jan 14, 2014 11:50 am

So I got this Nord Sorcerer (Heavy Armor/Dagger Mage) that I've been building up for the Ebony Warrior. This guy's magicka pool is less than his Health 500:400 and he doesn't use spell reduction gear instead with enchantments geared towards survivability in outnumbered combat. As you may know Master and Expert Destruction can take it's toll on a caster's pool.

So what do I do when I often find myself in a casting bind? I throw down a Circle of Protection of course. I Whirlwind Sprint out of the fray cast a Circle and in less than a second I absorb the spell until my magicka is back to 100% and sprint back into battle.

I just discovered this trick this playthrough and some folks might already know about this, but I thought I'd share this with the folks that might not know.

Anyways, yeah Atronach Perk definitely has a long list of pros.

That is pretty cool. I recall reading about it somewhere else. I didn't realize it recharged your magic so fast. Does it really only take a second?

You've got to remember there's a 70% chance it will fail to absorb, but since circle of protection is a heal/second spell that makes it a lot more reliable. And usually for me yeah, 1-2 seconds. I think the amount absorbed is based on spell cost so since circle of protection is an expert level spell and I have no spell reduction gear you do the math.

I think that you can do the same thing with an atronoch staff or sanguines rose. Since absorption screws up summons it will absorb the summon attempt and return the cost of the spell to you but since you used a staff it allows you to convert staff charges into magicka. Try it out and let me know how it works.

If you are a necromancer is it best to avoid this?
