Attack sometimes not working?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 7:29 pm

Are there any spells used by mages that prevent you from attacking ? Sometimes in the heat of battle I cannot trigger an attack, either with a one handed-weapon or a spell, even though i have magicka.... it can get extremely and literally game-breaking...

any clues?

Are you using an FPS limiter?

Never had it with weapon attacks, but sometimes the left hand healing spell, which is always equipped, and my build absolutely relies on, simply doesn't trigger. I have no idea why, but it certainly isn't lack of magicka, I have over 600. No option but to run and hide until it works again.

Logitech G13 gameboard (wired) .... so it isn’t a hardware controller issue. Happens when i use my normal keyboard too.

No FPS limiter but it could be just my slow old computer. It's just that it is not a consistent problem, neither does it coincide with FPS drops.

The fact that most spells seem to have a (small but noticeable) delay before they even start charging makes this a double PITA.

When my character has a pile of bodies, the attack on the third or fourth opponent will occasionally not connect at all. I can move forward or push the opponent back, but if my character is low on stamina or health it becomes a real problem.

i had the same for a while, but it stopped suddenly. no idea where it came from, since my mouse is perfectly fine and far from being a bad mouse.

I often have unresponsive keys/buttons. But it's probably down to a dodgy PC or console

I find that will happen to mostly spells versus weapons for me, but you just need to sheath your weapon(s) and un-sheath them. Fixes the problem every time.

I have this problem too since 1.4. At first I suspected a physical problem with the mouse, but that's ruled out because:
1) It also affects shouting with the Z key on the keyboard.
2) It's fixed by sheathing and drawing weapons.

I had this when the game was version 1.3. I was once fighting a giant when all of a sudden I was unable to move the right hand. Switched to the bow, same thing. I had to reload the game several times before things got back to normal.

This hasn't happened in version 1.4. yet.

To eliminate any Hardware sourced issues, play the game on Low and see if the issue comes back. I say this because you mention the delay in spells and few have reported that issue. If it does not, then add back the eye candy until it starts again.

Thanks, happens for shouts too, so it could be related to eye candy.

Does anyone with a high-spec PC get this?

I am on Xbox, so no relation to settings, as there aren't any. IIRC, it has only happened facing larger groups of bandits or forsworn, outdoors, so maybe my poor old console just gets a bit overwhelmed.
