Yeah, how will encumberance be handled now that Attributes are comfirmed not to be in the game?

I guess that everyone will have the same level of encumbrance and you will be allowed to select perks that can increase the amount that you can carry.

Encumbrance could be associated with a perk tree. Each race starts at a specific amount and a perk would increase the limit.

Where have they confirmed that Attributes aren't in the game? Link please?

I can see numerous problems with the removal of attributes, but I think they will be addressed in different ways. It wouldn't make sense for a warrior focused character who wears heavy armor to jump as far and move as fast as a thief/speed oriented character wearing light armor, right? I think weight of armor will be a factor in how far a character can jump and fast he can move to make some separation between the two classes. I also think there will be perks to move faster and jump farther that a character can choose to augment their class. I think the same will be for thing like encumbrance and other things that were previously governed by attributes. I also think the removal of attributes will greatly improve leveling, as the attribute increases per level in oblivion had some serious problems.

I'd prefer a relatively static attribute system like FO:NV. Attributes that don't increase w/ level advances. I always loved the SPECIAL system and the 1-10 ratings.

I hope so, maybe the stamina attribute will affect encumberance?

One of the articles that came out today mentioned it.

IMO, they screwed it up with the armors when they decided that a Master Heavy Armor wielder wouldn't be encumbered by it's 120-pound-weigthed' one. That has always annoyed me.

The old system was that you set your attributes at the start of a game and with every level you advance the attributes of your choice.
With the new system everyone starts with the same 'attributes' (e.g. speed) and then you advance them by perks.

So there will be a perk that allows you to carry more. Fallout had this, New Vegas had this, Skyrim will have it.

This. I'm sure they have thesee things counted in.

I find it interesting that they removed attributes and birth signs though.

It's not the other more prestigious franchise they now own though. I have no qualms about them experimenting.

One word. Perks.

Pete clarified on IGN that perks have pretty much replaced attributes.

So skill level will determine which perks become available? I wonder what skill would be associated with carrying capacity.

There might be skill-independent perks. I think there were a few in FO.

I'm still not sure how they'll handle Encumberance as a Set amount doesn't make sense. A Wood Elf won't be able to carry as much as a Nord or an Orc. I hope that's explained in the next couple of months.

Yes Attributes are gone and it's a good thing. Basically Health, Magicka, Stamina and Perks have replace Attributes.

Health Can Replace Endurance.
Archery Can Replace Agility.
Weapon Skills can replace Strength.
Stamina can Replace Willpower.
Magicka can Replace Intelligence.
The Speechcraft Skill can replace Personality.
Speed is at a set figure, I'm guessing that the different races will have different run speeds like a Wood Elf will run much faster then a Nord.
Luck is useless and can be gotten rid of.

Encumberence will probably be tied to a strength perk.

I don't see stamina replacing willpower??? I think it will behave like fatigue.
I wonder how the regeneration of magicka will be handled.

Except we have no reason to believe so. Everything suggests that all perks will be tied to skills.

Archery Can Replace Agility.

I tried to explain that in another thread:

What you forget is that every attribute governed several skills. Even the best marksman will now sneak like a drunken cow.
Attributes made sense because they added another layer of specilization: When you get stronger, you get better in all things that require strength; when you improve your agility, your get better in all things that require nimbleness; when you get more intelligent, your get better in all things that require intelligence. This is gone now, without any replacement.

I'm thinking that encumberence will be linked to stamina. From what we've been told perks are tied to skill, so I don't really see that fitting.

Not that I like hearing that Attributes are removed, but in their defense, for the most part, the attributes got in the way of the game, either in severely debilitating ways like Speed, or in hilariously unbalanced ways like Strength and Sujamma spam.

The work needed to properly balance an attribute system on a 100 point scale, probably wasn't worth it.

As for the topic itself, I have a feeling Encumbrance will somehow be tied to your stamina. Probably Enc. = Stamina/2 or something.
