Audens Avidius

Post » Tue Aug 17, 2010 8:38 pm

The first time I played through the game was easily my best experience with Audens. Obviously, I didn't know what to expect, but even with that, it worked out perfectly. My character spent the night at an inn, woke up the next morning, turned around and BAM! there he was, gibbering and flailing away with his dagger.

Since then, I just haven't had that sort of experience with him. Part of it, of course, is that I know what to expect at this point (that peaked with one character a while back - we were just travelling along and I suddenly thought, "You know - it should be about time for Audens to show up," and not more than 15 minutes later, there he was. I took that as evidence that I'd played far too much). Part of it though is that he seems to have lost his timing. Recently, I was playing a character who was deep in an ayleid ruin. I can't remember right off which one it was, but it has a huge room with a walkway through it and on the lower level, there are poison traps spaced out all the way through at least two large expanses of floor (if memory serves correctly). She was at the far end of that part of the ruin when she heard, "Oog..... uh...... ah..... ugh......" behind her. Sure enough, here comes Auden, charging through the poison traps. By the time he got to her, he had just a tiny sliver of health left and she took him down with a single hit. Seemed hardly worth the bother. And most recently (and the inspiration for this thread) another of my characters, who's doing the MQ, closed an Oblivion gate and, when she returned to the world, there was Audens, dead on the ground. I don't know if something killed him before he even got to the gate or if he died inside and was ejected when it closed, but in either case, the first she saw of him after his arrest was as a corpse.

Sort of a shame, y'know? I feel sort of bad for him, putting out all that effort only to die before he even gets a chance to rant at my character. Then die.

Feel free to share your Audens stories, or whatever....

I was doing the first Dark Brotherhood quest, where you must kill the pirate. As I was sneaking past the two bickering shipmates, Audens charges in, alerting the pirates to me and him. The pirates killed Audens, and then me. That bastard must have had it all planned out.

Thanks - I was hoping for one of those. Well... not the part about the pirates killing your character - just Audens busting in at a really bad moment. I've been sort of expecting him, sooner or later, to charge in while I'm in the Temple of the Ancestor Moths or sneaking back through the sewers to off Valen Dreth or something like that. Or maybe to show up in Arkved's Tower or Henantier's Dreamworld (that last would be particularly entertaining, though I sort of doubt it could happen).

Heh. The Adoring fan does this too. Like when your in oblivion for the first time, and battling through spider-daedra, near dead, when you see a torchlight coming to you. Expecting a flame-atronach of sorts, or a dremora, you find a- "By azura by azura by azura! Its th-" -Sword to the face-

I actually think I've only done this quest once. It's one of those that wasn't particularly entertaining the first time through, so I feel like once was enough.

Anyway, he picked a fairly bad time to approach me. I was sleeping on one of the cots in Cloud Ruler Temple, and every single cot in the place was filled with my Blades Brothers and Sisters. Once Audens became aggressive, well...I didn't even have to draw my weapon.

The first time he ever attacked me was the first time I'd been back to Cyrodiil in a month or so because I was in Shivering Isles. I don't really know how he got to the island but as soon as I entered Cyrodiil, I got a dagger to the face. At first I didn't attack him because I thought I broke the law or something and I didn't want a bigger bounty on my head but when I saw that guy guarding the portal attack him I left him a big heaping pile of blood.

Maybe it's because I haven't played Oblivion in a while...but who is Audens?

Well if you′ve been killed, resurrected and killed again a few times, wouldn′t you eventually grow tired of all the planning and timing and just go ahead and get it over with?

As for Lothran, he was attacked by Audens while training with summons upstairs at The Foaming Flask. After a rest and leveling he got out of the bedroom and was just about to start training again when Audens burst in, yelling and wielding a steel shortsword.
Lothran was greatful for that as he got stuff to sell :D

I havent played the quest as much, as it feels its only open for some of my characters. But when Devaberiel slept in his house, audens woke me up and started running to pick up my mightiest sword I had (roleplaying purpose, I only wear standard clothing when sleeping, armor otherwise and sword is always on the closest counter).
Needless to say, I got slaughtered effectively, so I loaded the autosave, and grabbed the elven dagger instead, Again, slaughtered. This time, I prepared my spell that had same effects as the sword. Then I survived. Why am I never prepared in oblivion?

I was doing the Mehrune's Razor quest, I was deep within the Dunmer camp scoping out targets to sneak/snipe, when in charges this shirtless lunatic out of the darkness. The Dunmer made short work of him and later I discovered who it was, poor Audens.

I had a similar experience at the Cheydinhal Fighters Guild. I was walking up the stairs to the second floor and heard a commotion behind me. I turned around to see Keld and Burz pound some guy wearing sack cloth into the floor. It was over before I could even draw a weapon. I walked down and moused over the body to find out who it was.

My Altmer is pretty prescient and usually knows Audens is coming for him.
One time he decided to wait for him near a certain well in Cheyindhall.
It didnt take long for Audens to turn up and while I shouted: "Ill leave you alone if you leave me alone!" I jumped in the well.
Audens decided he wanted revenge really bad and followed me however.
So he drowned in the well while I mimed and gesticulated to him the importance of learning a breathing water spell..

The fool was in Veyond. Who's the guy getting ripped apart by those trolls? Went to help, didn't have a clue who he was until I took the diary off him. As I realised, you should have seen the smile on my face.

On my first playthrough, I just finished off three combatants in the Arena (I barely survived). I went back into the Red Room but someone was coming for me.
"Is THIS the Adoring Fan...? But why is he armed? Hey... this face looks familiar..."
Yeah, it was Audens. He almost killed me but I ran to the Basin of Renewal and then owned him.

Interesting stories I must admit I forgot where I did meet Audens with my current character ... I remember in some earlier game I did meet with him at the Vampire Caverns near Skingrad, and it was a reallly WTF, moment .... I hadn't a clue back than ...

Only time he ever came at me was when I was in Oblivion. I expected a Dremora, or a Cannifear or Xivilai, instead. . . :shakehead:

He hunted me down and found me near the old Dark Brotherhoods House. I hit him after he hit me and the dang guards arrested me.

I haven't had him attack me yet although I don't usually do his quest because you don't get much of a reward for doing it.

Return to IV - Oblivion
