Aug 19 German Gamepro Article (Michael Graf)

Post » Sun Aug 21, 2011 10:55 pm

Gamepro has posted a second article after Gamescom (their first article, a QuakeCon hands on preview was somewhat controversial because the author, Stephen Freundorfer indicated that using fast travel costs money).

Link to Aug 19 German Article: http://www.gamepro.de/preview/spiele/ps3/rollenspiel/the_elder_scrolls_5_skyrim/1971223/the_elder_scrolls_5_skyrim.html

Yahoo Translation: http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamepro.de%2Fpreview%2Fspiele%2Fps3%2Frollenspiel%2Fthe_elder_scrolls_5_skyrim%2F1971223%2Fthe_elder_scrolls_5_skyrim.html&lp=de_en&btnTrUrl=Translate

Google Translation: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamepro.de%2Fpreview%2Fspiele%2Fps3%2Frollenspiel%2Fthe_elder_scrolls_5_skyrim%2F1971223%2Fthe_elder_scrolls_5_skyrim.html&sl=de&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8

Someone please translate this phrase for us:
"So k?mpft der Held unter anderem gegen Nekromanten, die magische Froststrahlen verschie?en und gefallene Kameraden wieder auferwecken. Nettes Detail: Wenn der Helden den Nekromanten umprügelt, w?hrend der gerade den Erweckungszauber wirkt, zerf?llt der zu erweckende Kamerad einfach zu Staub."

Also this phrase:
"Fortgeschrittene Rezepte brauchen neben Erzbarren allerdings noch andere Zutaten, beispielsweise Lederstreifen."

Translation by MtnDewFanatic :thanks:
This is the best I can get: "The hero is fighting against, among others, necromancers that use frost magic and magic that resurrects fallen comrades. Nice detail: When the hero beats the necromancer, the resurrected comrade simply disintegrates into dust."

"Advanced recipes require not only ore ingots, but other ingredients, for example, strips of leather."

This isn't a literal translation. Google translates it literally, that's why the Google translations are goofy. I translated it into a practical form. I tried my best with my four years of German and Google Translate.

Link to Aug 5 Article Discussion: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1217303-aug-5-german-gamepro-article-stephen-freundorfer/

Some highlights discernible despite the poor machine translation:

  • "half-sunken ruins of the lake, full of necromancers"
  • dual wielding weapons does higher damage (logical to expect this)
  • certain melee attacks can knock your opponent slightly off balance, making them ripe for counter-attack
  • you can use a torch to block
  • Necromancers can resurrect fallen comrades and if the hero does something to the Necromancer ["umprügelt"], the resurrected enemy disintegrates into dust (please see German sentence above).
  • No mention of dialogue with Necromancers or befriending them
  • the reviewer disliked the inventory system lists and menu system
  • the favorites menu remembers settings for both hands: for example, if you use one handed axe in left hand and Frostbite spell in right hand, then equip two-handed weapon for a while, whenever you switch back that one-handed axe, the game remembers what you last equipped in your right hand (the Frostbite spell)
  • not only can you wait to spend perk points after leveling up, but you can also wait to allocate your Magicka, Stamina or Health points
  • the article seems to incorrectly make reference to attributes that are not in the game (Strength, Constitution, Willpower, Intelligence)
  • some Guardian Stones provide additional health or magicka
  • the types of ore (article claims "12" but previously we were told there are 13) range from iron to gold and the mined raw ore must be melted to create ingots
  • through crafting you can upgrade your favorite warhammer
  • the higher your Smithing skill, the more diverse materials you can handle and the better the items and upgrades
  • there are advanced Smithing recipes that require not only ingots but other ingredients, such as strips of leather (thanks ToddC45)
  • there is a type of magical armor that provides a health bonus, which you can break down to learn the health bonus enchanting effect
  • Skyrim currently allows only one type of enchantment effect per item, but this might change
  • food has a separate category in the inventory list
  • the recipe for Rabbit Stew provides greater health and endurance boost than the individual ingredients

Thanks dude! :P

With the help of Dictionary.com

1: 'So the hero is fighting against, among others necromancers frost fire the magic rays and resurrect fallen comrades again Nice detail: When the hero umprügelt the necromancer, while just the revival of magic acts, to the inspiring comrade simply disintegrates into dust.

2: Advanced recipes require not only Erzbarren however, other ingredients, for example, strips of leather.

The best I could do.

Gold is a crafting material? I guess it must be for jewelry, because a gold sword would cost a fortune and wouldn't hold an edge well.

Here's Google: ". So the hero is fighting against, among others necromancers frost fire the magic rays and resurrect fallen comrades again Nice detail: When the hero beats the necromancer, while just the revival of magic acts, to the inspiring comrade simply disintegrates into dust."

"Recipes require not only advanced ore ingots(?) however, other ingredients, for example, strips of leather."

You beat me by 3 minutes :(. At least the translation is consistent.

Also, Necromancers reviving necromancers is an idea that makes so much sense, one wonders why they never did it in the past . I'm probably missing something, but still.

Maybe you have to combine it in a special way with a few other ores to create some alloy used in making Mithril or something like Elven Armor, for example.

OH GUYS! I cannot wait for GOLD INGOTS. I will eventually create a character (a Ratcliff sort of guy), who makes gold ingots for hoarding and storing in his mansion.

That makes sense. Maybe gold could have an enchantment bonus or something that allowed it to hold more powerful magic, offsetting its poor edge-keeping capabilities. It would be cool if all ores had pros and cons, which would add a layer of complexity when deciding material.

Beolingus didn't recognize erzbarren either, but it recommended some similar words, one of them being essbaren, which means edibles or victuals.

Boy, they sure do like to perpetuate the idea that Necromancy is evil and bad.

Kind of puts a damper on the possibility of a joinable faction. I hope they aren't all hostile. Even if I never plan on joining them.

Edited a typo.

Just because they came across some enemy Necromancers doesn't mean it's confirmed you can't join them.

If the things are true then I mostly like them. The author even dares to say he didnt like something which gives his opinion some weight. Especially like the in-depth crafting and enchanting. Disappointed that necromancers are automatically hostile. Hoping that theyre joinable though and there are options for the mages who dont want to join the college of winterhold.

There seems to be a new mod around :o congrats

Maybe some necromantic infighting? I'm sure for every well-meaning friend-omancer, there are 100 evil necromancers.

Not that my Paladin of Meridia would stand for such fetid perversions of life to exists.

Or maybe just have necromancers be on their own instead of forming volleyball teams that hang out in dungeons and never play volleyball?
