Pete discusses a few things that have been mentioned in other recent interviews, such as using cookfires for cooking, upgrading weapons and armor, mining ore and turning it into ingots, etc.

The only highlights seemed to be:

  • some killing moves will be in first person, others will be in third person.
  • third person camera has modifiable settings
  • he keeps repeating 20-25 hours for main quest (as opposed to 20-30 hours mentioned in certain previous interviews).

Thanks.
20-25 hours is better than the 9 hours it took me to beat Oblivions main quest at level 6. Ugh. What a joke. Hopefully Skyrims will be better.

I'm not surprised, same went for oblivon, it was first 50 hours, then dropped to 30, then 20, and now a player at leisure can complete it in 4  I think personally they should stop trying to estimate how long the MQ is supposed to be, its kind of a diservice to say how long across the board it would take players to complete the MQ.

It's almost slightly mandatory in a way. Deud Ex: HR's main quest hours was given, so has the Assassin's Creed games. But obviously both franchises have things to do outside of the main quest.

The numbers are for average players who take an average amount of time. If you go at the MQ fast paced or try to speed run of coarse your going to come short of the average.

It's been that way in every RPG I've played. A dev says 1 number, a journalist says another, PR says another, then another journalist says another. It happened with Morrowind, Oblivion, all the Final Fantasies, GTA, and the list goes on and on. MQ numbers are meaningless because everyone plays at a different pace and does different things.

Very true. But I do not remember Skyrim MQ starting at 50 hours, I only remember them saying 30 hours to start with

Well said. I think at the end of the day the most appreciation will come if the main quest is meaningful in it's content, narrative, and what it makes the player do rather than sole hours as if the whole MQ was a complex fetch quest even if we had 60 hours of content in it(Or much lower if your speed running, don't take average time estimated) with a simplistic plot line everyone would loath it.

That is if you even get to the MQ and aren't too busy exploring, doing jobs, stalking down prey, whatever your doing.

Yea and it can be completed in way less than that.

:( Still not happy about kill moves. I didnt really want any, but I would tolerate (and probably grow to like) 1st person ones. But Im really, really annoyed about the 3rd person ones. I hope to god that they only trigger if you play in 3rd person. But they way he says it, it sounds as if they are forced, no matter what....

[*]some killing moves will be in first person, others will be in third person. Fail.
[*]third person camera has modifiable settings Unless it can be toggled off completely, also Fail.
[*]he keeps repeating 20-25 hours for main quest (as opposed to 20-30 hours mentioned in certain previous interviews). Meh..
[/list]

3rd person camera should at no point ever be forced upon the player.

Good interviewer. Thank you for posting, Booty. :D

I have decided I'm going to have my character take over every NPC job in a town. I'll smith all the weapons, brew all the potions, cook all the food, chop all the wood, rent all the beds... I'll even marry myself to myself! Then if they complain about it I'll just... "FUS RO DAH!"

That is, until they form an http://www.darklegacycomics.com/112.html to take me down... :shifty:

If the main quest is "20-25" in actuality it will be 10-14. Devs always publish numbers from their slowest playtesters to boast game stats.
