Aurora Borealis night atmosphere

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:38 am

I don't think I've witnessed anything more beautiful in a game than the night skies in Skyrim when the aurora's are out. It really adds an atmosphere to the night time.

Yes it is, especially when the moons are in the sky.
Sometimes I just stop and stare at it for a minute or so.
Stunningly beautiful.

I remember shortly after I had started playing the game I climbed the of the mountains near dawnstar on a clear night and as I was walking to the top facing the sea I was met by the red Aurora Borealis completely dominating the horizon. it was awesome.

As great as you think it is now, it's much better with a few mods that add galaxies, better sky, moons etc.

You knew what you were getting into when you opted to purchase the future most modded game on an unmoddable platform.

It looks really good, especially the orange-ish colored ones :)

This picture isn't the best, but it was the last time when i encountered the orange-ish borealis...

Sometimes I just stop and stare at it for a minute or so.

This is the biggest measure of graphics success to me. Regardless of the graphics vs gameplay argument, I was a little disappointed at the beginning of the game (first 5 hours or so) that I didn't feel compelled to stop and look. I think seeing the Aurora was the first thing that got me excited. Since then, maybe because of graphics tweaks, I find myself stopping to look out over the mountains, taking time to run down to a river, etc. I don't care what anybody says, if a game makes you want to do that, the graphics are a win. And as much as I stand on the gameplay side, the candy and art design are much appreciated.

Same here. I always sit on a bench if I can and stare at it, somehow the most subtle and brilliant songs of Jeremy Soule starts playing. Makes me tear whenever I see that red/yellow/green Aurora Borealis.

That is a fantastic shot and a prime example of why I gawk at the night sky very frequently. Right up until the bear or sabrecat or skeever... I missed spotting and doesn't make any noise till it's chewing on my backside startles the ever living crap out of me. :swear:
