Auto breakdown station inventory -Junk only or all category?

Subtle but important distinction - I / we know the crafting stations will use whatever Junk material it needs when a craft calls for it - and if the raw part (steel, gear, oil, etc) does not exist, it will handily break down a whole part to extract the raw parts needed.

So far so good - BUT, my question is does anyone know if:

1) Will this only do auto breakdown with Junk classified items?

-because if it does, then it is a no brainer to store ALL your stuff in the communal station inventory - easy, no thinking, just store all Junk plus whatever other inventory items like guns, armor, etc

-but if it does not, if it can auto break down stuff not classified as Junk - then it seems safest course is to store only Junk items and raw parts like animal meats, chemistry reagents, etc, and store gear like armor, weapons, etc in other containers. Which is hassle because then you need to unload into separate containers, separate steps, but safer

So does anyone know if auto break down ONLY can take Junk items to break down?
