Auto-Health Regen

Post » Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:08 pm

This has been asked before, but I'll ask it again: what is it going to take for people who ALWAYS defend every decision by Bethesda to say "I'm not okay with that"? I mean you're defending mother [censored] regenerating health, a horrible feature even in twitch FPS's, let alone a fricking RPG.

I used a mod in Oblivion that made health regenerate dynamically long before Skyrim was ever announced, so I'm unlikely to get upset that a change that I made to my own game is becoming a feature in the next one. In fact, many of the changes the devs are making in Skyrim move it in the direction of the way I modded my Oblivion game.

Incorrect. Saying "Oh, it's Bethesda so I'm sure it'll be fine" is MUCH less logical than basing something on actual evidence. Again, what is 'Todd mode'. I have seen no confirmation from ANY source that Todd was using a hacked build with mechanics not found in-game. Until you can provide such you are making baseless assumptions while I am merely making conjecture.

I just gave all the proof you need. Post right above yours. Your welcome.

Pete's latest tweet on health regen..."Just wait and see how it works. It isn't that fast, doesn't help in combat, and def doesn't replace Restoration."

DOESN'T HELP IN COMBAT.

DOESN'T REPLACE RESTORATION.

I'm still unhappy. Why even bother with something like that?

Someone making an EXTREMELY broad explanation isn't proof. Also just because someone says something doesn't make it true, that is a logical fallacy

To me it doesnt matter how fast or slow it is that fact that it's there is plain annoying.

I support it, but at a slow rate, like the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Valence_radii-accentuator from Old World Blues. It heals at a very slow rate of 12 points every in-game hour, so is unnoticeable in combat.
The rate can go even slower, and I'm fine with that, just no, 3 points per second.

Don't play Skyrim if you are on a console, or mod it out if you play on PC. That's all I can tell you. I just delivered a tweet from Pete. That's all.

@Sinister I thought you're main problem was that it helped in combat. Pete said it doesn't.

@hlvr Exactly.

I am appalled that Bethesda has crippled the game in such a way by adding auto-health regen. If it works just like the demos then this mechanic will RUIN gameplay. In the demos it is easy to see the players health returning either between small skirmishes or even MID BOSS FIGHTS (as seen between during the battle with the dragons in the quakecon demo, his health recharges twice: once halfway through fighting the fire dragon and the other when he jumps off the tower)

That was Todd using potions by a quickslot; how do I know this? Because a healing aura was all around Todd. Since he didn't use his hands, it's pretty logical it was a potion.

It has also been confirmed that health doesn't regenrate during combat, and it doesn't replace restoration. It's "not that fast".

OK, in the Quakecon footage:

1: as soon as the fight with the woodelf archer by the riverside ends, his health fills up again.
2: then again, as he heads into Bleak Falls, his health tops up within seconds, wtihout him doing anything.
3: same after the draugr fight.
4: same after the slowmo axe-wielding draugr battle.

Thank god for mods, that's all I can say. To Beth's credit (if credit can be given in this case), it does not seem to happen in mid-combat, only after combat has ended.

Yeah, this game is too much like CoD already. Jelly on screen and health regen? No thanks! Won't health regen affect waiting or sleeping? If not, as soon as a battle ended I could sit in a corner, wait for my health to regenerate and while I wait just lurk around this forum. Perfect!

I won't mind it as long as they keep at a rate combichble to the implant you could buy in New Vegas. It healed 1 hp every 5th second and had no impact on combat whatsoever. I barely noticed that I had it at all, and that is when I travelled the wasteland looking for stuff.

Indeed, I've checked, he used potions.

Oh and you can equip more than one shouts now, apparently :D

But what button could that even be? Both triggers are hands. I believe left bumper is powers/shouts, right is sprint. Y,X,B,A are what they have always been. Thumbstick buttons are what they've always been. D-pad is now the bookmark menu. Where would a potion button come from?

Yup. Todd used potions and the regen doesn't help in combat. Perfect.

I like it. It makes playing a Die-Hard fighter a viable option again.

Up on the dpad is favorites. Left and right on the dpad are hotkeys for left hand and right hand.

In all honestly, is this any worse than just spamming that little healing spell that every character starts with to achieve an identical result? Seems to me waiting costs you time and slows your progress. Spamming the spell gains you skill, which contributes to leveling and heals you faster, accelerating your progress. Both reach the same end point of being healed. I'm not seeing a real problem with this arrangement.

Didn't FO3 have auto regen health? I know I died more often in FO3 than in OB. In FO3 you couldn't wait for an hour and be up to full health either like one could in OB. So, I think it'll be fine, even though by all rights one should start to bleed out rather than start to heal once your hp gets so low...

Yea, I get that, but you don't equip potions to a hand. Maybe you can equip it to the left bumper but I didn't see him do that
