Auto-Health Regen

Post » Thu Aug 18, 2011 7:16 pm

Didn't FO3 have auto regen health? I know I died more often in FO3 than in OB. In FO3 you couldn't wait for an hour and be up to full health either like one could in OB. So, I think it'll be fine, even though by all rights one should start to bleed out rather than start to heal once your hp gets so low...

No, ther ewas no auto regen health. There was a perk that allowed it in sun light, but before the level cap increase, it was the unlocked with 3 other perks for the end game perk.

Yea, I get that, but you don't equip potions to a hand. Maybe you can equip it to the left bumper but I didn't see him do that

It's a hotkey. You can equip whatever you want to a hotkey. Since Skyrim uses the whole equipping things in your hands system, they have hotkeys for left hand and right hand. Left on dpad, right on dpad. That's how the new system works. Even potions.

I like it too. Point being that you can't tailor the game to 100% of the audiences tastes. Sorry.

Except it is now actively being tailored to a different audience, and it's not the RPG kind. Sorry.

No need to say you're sorry. I love the new system and endorse it. No need to apologize to me about it. I couldn't be happier. Sorry Skyrim won't suit your gaming needs/preferences like it will mine.

I just rechecked the video and he had 'firebreath' on the hotkey for the first heal during the dragons fight and 'stormcall' the second

Was there this much whining when Oblivion added Auto-regenerating Magicka (OH NOES! MAGICKA POTIONS ARE USELESS NOW!), or Morrowind added auto-regenerating Stamina (OH NOES! RESTING IS USELESS NOW!)?

Now, Health, Magicka, and Stamina are consistent with each other.

And I don't see it as out-of-synch with RPGs... Nethack has auto-regenerating health, and after a certain level, so do Diablo and its clones.
Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age also have regenerating health.
Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale didn't, but that's because D&D 2nd and 3rd editions didn't either.

I've found more RPGs that have slowly regenerating health than RPGs without.

Magicka is a give and take. I kinda liked it having regen because then you could actually play a mage character without relying on potions (Warriors don't really need health potions). Stamina should have ALWAYS been regen because it effects EVERYTHING. Health is supposed to be much more static than those 2

I never saw it on there. Have a MM:SS for it?

Around 20:44 when he equips the frost rune you can see for a second the number of potions he has under Long Bow (I think there are other places where he shows the favourites menu and you can see them, but I've found this one now), which is 15

Around 34:44 when he re-equips the dragon breath, right after he jumps down the tower and heals, you can see the number of potions he has are now only 11.

And there's a 1 next to the potions too, so it is marked to a quick-slot or something...

Don't know if we have the same video as mine is a bit glitchy...

If the new casualized style suits you, that's super. No need to get apologetic about that either (My sorry was sarcastic, btw. Too bad you didn't get that). You still can't refute the fact that they're actively steering the ship into a more "accessible" direction (read: Call of Skyrim: Modern Scrollfare).

What button is the second? From what I can gather up/down on the d-pad opens up the bookmarks menu and left/right puts the item on left or right hand. Is up supposed to be another hotkey and you open the menu with left/right? If so then how was he able to hotkey different items from the one menu for left/right?

If you're on PC mod the game how you like. If you're on a console then don't play it, or play it and be miserable. Choice is yours.

@Sinister Left and Right on dpad are hotkeys. Up is for favorites. They haven't said what down is used for.

Pete's latest tweet on health regen..."Just wait and see how it works. It isn't that fast, doesn't help in combat, and def doesn't replace Restoration."

DOESN'T HELP IN COMBAT.

DOESN'T REPLACE RESTORATION.

This.

Aha, finally some proof. Thank you, I'll change the OP now. Also note that it isn't because of some mythical 'Todd-mode' that doesn't even seem to exist. People need to stop using this fake Todd-mode as a reason why everything is perfectly fine.

I haven't seen any numerical representation of his demo health. I assume that he was using a high level build but that doesn't mean he is using some hacks that make the game play differently than it will for others (thus not a mode of the game specific to Todd)

It says 999 health.

He does have 999 health 500 magicka and stamina.

He's also around level 34, which is fairly high level...

Health doesn't regen in combat. Food and potions will be very useful.

Regardless, watching the demo you can see Todd needed to use potions. That was with a level 34 character too. So my statement still stands. Food and potions will still be very useful.

@XTC I wanted it. You make it sound like implementing health regen took a month of dev time. It probably took 5 minutes.

@Sinister Todd's health never auto regens during combat in the demo. Food for thought.
