Auto take gold

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 12:58 pm

on the whiteboard there is 'auto take gold' written.

I for one hope they dont implement this. I prefer to play minimalist and sometimes leave gold behind. I get bored in TES when I amass a fortune.

Must have been a secret code, or they put that there with a purpose to distract people's attention.

It depends though on whether or not it'll be harder to gain Gold in Skyrim than it was in Oblivion and whether or not you can actually blow off 100k gold with a few items.

So the auto-take gold feature may mean that it'll probably be harder to become rich, or there's expensive crap to buy so you don't have 100k gold just sitting in your inventory....

Yeah... it's weird, cuz I can't imagine not taking gold, but for some reason I like to have the option.

Yeah, I'd rather not see the Elder Scrolls streamlined into some convenient Diablo-esque game where all we have to worry about is combat, while the game handles all the little micromanagement for us.

While they're at it they may as well stop trying to hide loot in dungeons and just have it automatically given to us as soon as we complete it. Heck, who needs loot when most of it is sold to the shopkeepers? Let's just give the player money for every enemy they kill, Warcraft style! And who needs shopkeepers? Let's just have the player automatically gain new equipment by pulling up a "buy" menu whenever they want! <_<

I can understand why some use auto harvest alchemy ingredients mods, but would never dream of using anything like that. Want to pick plants, and take money out of chests myself. In fact I never use 'take all' options in games, each bit of that lovely loot has to be put in it's rightful place in the imaginary backpack individually.
Can't see the point of an interactive world, if you get the computer to auto-interact for you.

Well when you open a container there are a lot of buttons free. Perhaps there will be an 'auto' take gold button, where you just take the gold from the container.

IDK, sounds a bit stupid, but then so does it just taking the gold automatically -- I have no idea what real benefit that would give. It would just irritate me, I don't want the game doing things for me that I am perfectly happy to do myself.

When you don't want to get hit for theft because you walk by an NPC's desk with gold on it?

Do you mean literally "on" or "inside"? Because I don't think you will auto-pick up gold, you'll just auto-take gold from whatever invntory you're looking in.

I honestly don't get why some people don't like this feature, saying they don't want to "accidently" steal gold; Well, don't break into the house in the first place ;)

And I'm pretty sure you could steal gold in OB without getting a red flag/bounty, etc.

this feature would be fine if you could toggle it on and off, but if its perma on it would be garbage

I don't think they'd be dumb enough to implement auto-take gold on stolen currency.

I think this is a non-issue, there's no way they would do this.

Oh my god, automatically taking gold! How dare they?!

Seriously THIS is streamlining now? When you loot somebody you'll automatically pick up that you would pick up either way? NO, Real RPG players have to click on everything to pick up!!
I really don't understand how THIS is considered dumping down.

Also I'm sure this will be optional.

How would it be a bonus? Everytime you dropped a gold piece it would auto loot it so you'd never be able to stack it.

I wouldn't mind if it was a button that you hit to take all the gold, just like the take all button.

I would imagine that this would only be from containers, not just a "gold in the world around you flies magically into your pockets." :D

-------

As for the main topic... don't have an opinion. But I am hoping for a better container interface - after playing Fallout 3, and having things like keybindings for "take all" and "exit window", it's kind of annoying to go back to Oblivion and have the interface be clunkier. :)

 What if it's a toggleable option in the gameplay menu? I doubt they would just force this upon everyone, but I do think it should be added.

I also think you guys are misenterpriting it. You think it means, you come near gold or a corpse containing gold, and you automatically grab it. I see it as when you INTERACT with the corpse it automatically gathers the gold from it without you having to click on it. This would be a great feature, if toggleable.
