Autoaim ruining the fun

Post » Fri May 08, 2009 3:36 am

Nah, MLG acquired Smashboards and Gamebattles some time ago - long after they were an established competitive league. It's most commonly identified by it's flagship title.

What I meant is, is Crysis 2 being considered for MLG's Competitive Circuit (ala Black Ops, Halo: Reach and Starcraft 2) , or for Gamebattles alone?

i dunno bout all that. I assume something like that needs to be deduced over tried and tested reliability and a large fan base. things like the pro circuit are going to be judged based on how many people want to see it on there. another thing to take into consideration is that they may not want to add another game to their lineup, regardless of the title. But without the patches i dunno what is to come of C2.they are all minor issues for the most part. and i think the only reason the gaming community is so flamboyantly pissed off is because of all the hype around its release, and not even coming close to matching the self bestowed title of "best looking game evar!" lol

Warlock, you're not seriously giving any legitimacy to the findings of this poll are you?

Maybe I'll start my own poll:

1) I support the auto-aim as it stands in Crysis 2, and I have a large pencs.

2) I want auto-aim reduced or scrapped, and every girl I have slept with has to ask "is it in yet?"

Should give a clear result

well it would appear this poll is more directly reduced to the size of ones pencs. the topic has become disturbing at that point lol anything can be distorted and no poll is ever completely accurate with a 100% vote of the populace, and being only 40ish votes its not conclusive on the true majority level. but its a figure. 75% of the people who have voted, did so in favor of removing it. And if you dont think the majority of gamers want that removed, check my other post. It has an article written today about a patch PC recieved that removed the auto aim due to an outcry among its populace. so i doubt the obviously biased selection choices are hindering the results lol though, i do see your point.

The reason aim-assist exists at all because of the lack of precision in console controller thumbsticks as opposed to a PCs mouse. I'm not a PC player but I assumed that pretty much all PC fps games had no AA. Obviously it has no place in a PC fps. I wouldn't use a PC poll/thread to get rid of AA (which should never have had it to begin with) as evidence that consoles should follow suit.

i think if the playing field was even, it wouldnt matter if it existed or not. it just svcks being killed by a players exploitation of auto aim, rather than their skill. if it was not an option, everyone would have the same weakness. how could that be a bad thing? we dont "need" it.... we just need it if we want to get a 25-1 score with no prior FPS experience lol

I personally wouldn't mind it being removed.

However I understand develops putting it in. If they didn't I think alot of online shooters would lose alot of players. Think of Metal Gear Online (if you've played it), that game was crushingly difficult online (no AA) if you weren't experienced. Needless to say there was never many people playing (due also to the ridiculous registering process)because of the steep learning curve. Those who do play it are very very good. New players are crushed over and over and just give up coz they are not having fun. This type of game is not going to sell many copies for its online component.

Really its not a big deal. Sure you get killed cheaply, but you also get cheap kills too, and in the end the cream will still rise to the top. The more skilled player will win the even gun fight most of the time. Shouldn't it be more about fun than your ability to dominate weaker players??

I hate auto aim, it′s not realistic, and it makes your "work" not worth. I think that auto aim is good for singleplayer for those who are starting, but if you allow that in multiplayer, people won't learn to play without it... (that′s one of the good things in Modern Warfare 2).

well, first off, MGS online svcked bawls. big time. the only people who ever have or ever will play it are the die hard MGSers. I love MGS, but i cant stand the online. just didnt work out well. would be great working with teams or whatever, but the problem is too many people running around in it acting like its COD... "run and gun" with no stealth whatsoever, no sneaking, no real GAME to it.. just senseless slaughtering.. or at least thats what it was like when i tried it lol it was still early in the games life, so i dont know what it evolved to now.

but i dont want to dominate weaker players... i want a challenge... a proper challenge... not a game where people use ridiculous radar systems to track me as an otherwise stealthed opponent. not a game where someone can find the right lock on range and then aim, let go of the sticks, and somehow manage to land that perfect skill shot while im sliding past them.... we just want a competitive gaming environment that doesnt cater to the weak...

i totally agree. if you really need auto aim, perhaps you should stick to shooting the AI that will practically stand there waiting for you to rip their heads off. because you certainly have no place in an online environment if you dont have the reflexes to put your crosshairs where you need them... anyone can be good at anything with dedication time... the weakest player in the world can eventually become the best with the right steps taken... but why should we bow to the ranks of a lower player that won the match because of a safety net? I want to take my auto aim off. but if i do, the newbs using it would tear me apart... i still fare pretty well with it off, but with people crackin headshots in mid air firing from the hip... well... theres not much one can do against that...

and i dont know if its lag, or if theres an inherent problem with the game itself, but ive been noticing random kills a lot more lately. 1 or 2 shot kills from people firing from the hip, who wouldnt go down with 4 seconds worth of burst firing precision shots to their head from my rifle.... just weirdness. doesnt happen all TOO often, but it does. makes me wonder if there is some sort of exploit here, or perhaps a glitch

Well it was called Metal Gear online, not Metal Gear Solid Online, and was never advertised as a stealth online game. I enjoyed it. Whether it svcks bawls or not is personal preference. What the f*%k do you mean "no real game...just senseless slaughtering" THATS WHAT ALL FPS's ARE. Also there were stealth game modes (with one player playing as snake) anyway thats off track.

If you see C2 as having a AA as strong as you detail above thats a shame for you, becasue I haven't experienced anything like that, and there are games with stronger AA than this, at least from my experience of it.

Also: how many players have you watched who "find the perfect lock on range, let go of sticks and land the perfect kill"

"metal gear online"? like the fact that "solid" has any real bearing on anything? I think you are missing the whole point. And MGS online was not a FPS, so you cant really compare the two. MGS has always been about stealth, and the online was supposed to recreate that on a multiplayer level. but it never went that direction as far as i know.

as for who ive watched do what i spoke of, i dont know. i wasnt there looking at their fingers was i? what i DO know... is that ive been able to kill people using the AA feature without even aiming once the lock on was obtained. ive tried and tested this myself. call me a liar if you want, and know i wont lose any sleep over it. im tellin you whats real, and its up to you to believe it or not. I got no reason to be here complaining about a non existent problem. im not a troll. trolls start **** over nothing. trolls try to form fact from fiction (or even just opinion). Im not here talkin about lag, or aim bots, or lag switches, or any other topic thats effectively useless in determining a real hinderance with the game. Im talkin about things ive seen myself that are pretty off... even for a crappy online FPS...

On the other hand... maybe im just that good! ;)

They removed auto-aim assist on the PC and fixed several other bugs, we'll have to be patient, when they're done with that maybe they'll start at the ps3. I'd rather have them putting their time into a patch than downloading 20 patches and nothing fixed yet... (like COD? how many times did they say that they were fixing the party thing, 'leave with party' still doesn't work like it should)

They did listen to the pc community, I think we have to be patient, it's not that the game is unplayable... though the aim assist, I don't notice much of it? It's a lot stronger on cod?

I dunno. with all the people stating aim assist is barely noticable, im beginning to wonder if its something with my game. because i honestly cant miss it lol i mean its not like im racking up 25 - 0 scores and just uber dominating the game because of it.... it may be a noticable event once or twice per match at best. but when it happens its kind of like a wakeup call like "wow... the auto aim is capable of THIS?" disheartening to your own pride like "i wonder how much of that was actually me..." and then of course there is the voice in the back of your mind when you get killed in some ridiculous fashion like "id like to see him try that **** without the auto aim..." it just raises a lot of questions. I know we have a lot to content with, not having the precision and speed of a mouse, but i think auto aims are like pacifiers for babies. The ones who use them and become dependent upon them will never want to get rid of them... its their security... but only when we break free of the things that make us weak to them can we become independent, and eventually mature into productive, skilled subjects.

If not removed, i vote for segregation. Nobody in their right mind will take the auto aim off in a match against auto aimers... its suicide.. pure and simple.. but i know i want to play without them on an even ground. Never can trust anyone even in a private match to turn it off... so it needs to be an option. IMO anyways.

and sorry sunny... im not tryin to get all harsh about it. I just feel strongly against these types of things. when it comes to competition i just dont feel like catering to the weaker masses is the best course of action. competition is about being the best. And youre right, they probably shouldnt remove the feature completely, for the casual gamers out there, but there should be some competition modes. just like they took the suit out for classic. give us a mode where auto aim and radar are non existent.

If console FPS did not have something to help the aim... We would all be doomed to miss and be killed from a person standing still EVERY TIME.

if auto aim existed, people would have to work for their kills. games would be longer, and so would firefights. you would be able to jump and slide around to avoid enemy fire. as it stands, i get killed after power jumping or sliding all the time. and its consoles inherent lack of speed and precision that tells me this phenomenon is NOT possible without the feature.

Hey you ever seen videos of people playing Halo? Notice how most of them keep the aiming cursor at the same spot? That because manual aiming is a pain!!!!! And it's still manual in Crysis 2.

ive played a little halo, and while i dont recall an auto aim being ridiculously apparent (i hate the game with a passion... like, seriously...) i never played it much. so i cant really speculate on it. i know aiming without it is a pain in the ass, but thats where the skill comes in. few can pull it off effectively. and thats the challenge. anyone here ever play Demons Souls? anyone repping the auto aim for a silly FPS game wouldnt last 10 seconds even in the single player mode of that game. for real. hardest game evar lol

Skill will always beat a proper aim assist.

With the current framerate and connection issues on this game no

on other games i don't mind people using aim assist

i been playing it without it. Huge disadvantaged to other players who has it on. I cant never win melee battles. In bad connections, i cant hit anything. When i turn it on, i dominated but its no fun. i rather play without it. I dont get it when aa is off and you score a headshot. If aa is on and you aim at the chest, you score a headshot lol

In comparison to COD the auto aim feature in this game is non existant. I can't even tell if its on which really makes me focus on aiming properly. The learning curve is steep since I am used to the heavy movement of COD auto aim. By the way as a serious gamer I believe auto aim is a necessary evil for console platforms FPS, simply beacuse our controllers do not have the accuracy compared to mouse contol on PC FPS.
