Automatic Character Deletion

Post » Sat Jun 12, 2010 12:22 am

ok so i found out that i cant have more then one character so i figured well ill only play one anyways in order to get far in the game so i just had the one character and it was fine. But then my friend came over and made a character on my game and it automatically deleted my guy i had been playing for a while and it made me pretty mad. So i was wondering is it normal for the game to automatically delete characters if u have more then one? also is there a way to retrieve deleted characters? anyone with some sort of help would be appreciated :)

You have to make a new save for each new character. If you keep counting on the game to "Autosave" then you only get one save no matter how many characters you create. If you're on the PC just select "New save" when saving. You can make and keep as many saves as you like.

It's best to have at least two or three saved games for each character. And if you let your friends play your game, teach them how to save it properly!

What system are you playing the game on, PC, XBox, PS3?

I only know the PC, and having more than one character is not a problem.

Oh my, then if you get into what your pc can do, you can custom name your saves (command console) and switch character profiles from one character to another (moving save game files around). I only play one character at a time though, so I'm no expert on the latter part. I do custom name my saves though and generally keep about 8 -10 of them for my character.

OMG there are people who use nothing but the auto save ?!? lol !

I have douzens of characters.

When I'm done playing with Oblivion, I put the saves for my character into the save directory I reserved for it on my data disk.

I do that in each and every game I play, not just Oblivion (and Morrowind).

A recent game, Dragon Age, has a compareable functionality built in, but I consider that completely superflous. Especially since the game has a memory leak, so I have to restart it every few hours anyway.

To help.

F5 to quick save, and F9 to quick load your last quick save.

ESC, enters the menu, click on save, new save.
Or to overwrite a save just click on the one to overwrite and click yes, keep 2 - 3 back ups per character at least if you can.

Continue from the opening menu will place you at your last save no mater if thats a quick save or not..

Further note: Sometimes a save may get corrupted on a ctd, usally for me its an autosave so just click on load game and load a previous one before the ctd.

So as many rpg's and players have said over the years, save often and keep your saves, if you can that is.

I used to play that way. For me, it was a kind of Dead-is-Dead Lite. You could save and return to that save, but because you were restricted to only the auto-save you had to really pay attention. You could get into jams that required starting a whole new character, just as in real Dead-is-Dead. You could not go back in time very far (I usually auto-saved about every half hour). It was a nice compromise between the keeping-you-on-your-toes-adrenaline-rush of Dead-is-Dead, while still allowing you to save.

I disabled auto-saves early on my first play-through, and disabled 'em before beginning the second (which followed a re-install). My second play-through is now a bit over two-and-a-half months old. I've already filled three DVDs with unique saves (made via console) from it, and see that I've already amassed roughly 2gb of new saves! Bear in mind that this second play-through started out with a good number of mods in place, so that even early save-files weren't small (compared to an un-modded game).
