[WIPz] Automatic Random Enchantment System (ARES)

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:12 pm

OOH. If it's almost ready can I help beta test? I beta tested Split infinity. :)
Though, I admit I ask a lot of times. Sorry. I'm just excited that another SI is coming out. I think Jaga would have been impressed. If he was still around.

Well, there will be two beta tests - one for the utility, which will only be for modders interested in using it (mostly because I won't be providing anything to test it with, so you'll have to write your own effects in order to test it), and then the beta test for ARES proper, which will be open to everyone. If you're interested in the former, you should let me know. ShadeMe, tejon, Phoshi, behippo, PacificMorrowind, and fragtogonal have already been noted, and I'll be asking a few others if they are interested in it (generally modders who are already working on magic effects, xilverbullet, StrategyMaster, Skyranger, etc). The full beta will be simply put on TES Nexus for everyone, though.

Down to 5 functions that cause a CTD, by the way. Four of them are very similar, too, so if I can figure out what's wrong with one, the other three should just work. The last one's a doozy though.

Well, only 1 CTD-causer now, though the other 4 still don't actually work correctly, they just no longer CTD...

Wow this looks great. I love variation in the items I find. That was one of the things I loved about Diablo II. No matter how many times I played through that game on any difficulty, I never even got close to getting everything.
Keep the the awesome work  (only if you want to.. no pressure man )

Sorry, I didn't finish before going back to school, so things are progressing slower than usual. They are progressing, however!

The crashing, behippo is actually looking at. I haven't heard from him on the subject in a really long time, actually...

And this doesn't look like the best of times to expect feedback, with the current OBSE issues and such.

Keep us posted

Ultimately, I can release without that function, though, so it's OK. Until v0019 it won't be very useful anyway (because I can't accept arrays as an argument, so passing out an array is only minorly useful when you can't pass it back in).

Any chance this could be done for magic scrolls, too?

and how is the item data stored, is the data saved in an .esp or the save game itself? or maybe an .esm?

Yah, I have some more free time recently. I can't call it "forgiving" as it's actually quite a bit of bad news for me, but it does mean I'll be able to work on this and NifScript.

ShadeMe's been requesting a bunch of things for NifScript, and I know HeX_0ff and a few others are interested too, so that will likely happen before ARES. However, both are currently open on my computer, and I did take the time to update ARES for v0018d. So there is that.

Another year, another thread I come out of the wood work to check out. As you may or may not remember, I like others followed Split Infinity when Jaga first brought it up. I followed ARES when you brought up the idea. Years later, I still have not lost faith!

Oblivion for the leaps and bounds it has gone through, still lusts for more randomness ;) Hope the work continues, I'll continue to understand if it doesn't. However, again; updates to progress are always welcome!

Well, I'm working on NifScript at the moment. It's currently... close to v1.0, alpha anyway. I have a couple of things to write, and one thing is not working for I know not why (but I've asked Scruggs).

After that would be ARES.

Heh, don't stay up waiting; yes, I'll be working on this shortly (just waiting on some code from Scruggs to finish up NifScript v1.0), and this is... reasonably close, IIRC, but it still needs a bit of work.

wow talk about a blast from the past, DragoonWraith i remember YEARS ago bookmarking a thread long gone where you were talking about creating really in depth random item generation, and here i am coming back to this game, seems like there is a VVVVVVibe out their right now to come back to Oblivion.

Really glad to see this project coming back DragoonWraith and if at all possible i would be honored to help play test this guy. I have a little free time right now.
