Automatron DLC Is AMAZING! What Do You Think?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2016 2:37 pm

Haven't played through the quest but I've tried out the robot building a bit with one of my current character and I must say it's quite fun. It'll be perfect for my next playthrough when the survival mode goes into beta, building settlements with only robots :D..

I've tried to avoid reading all the post so I don't spoil the quest but seems some have mentioned using the mechanist lair as a good base, so I presume it got a workshop in it to build inside? If so, is it like home plate in Diamond City or is at a fully functional "settlement" (doubt it since it's an interior cell but still nice to know)

Making that whole Robot Customization thing work is not an easy thing from programming, optimization and testing perspective. Remember that Beth removed much of clothing options from Oblivion because each new piece of clothing and armor would lower the performance. Robots here not only have many slots, but each part changes part of their core functionality (and testers have to test every combination under many different scenarios).

Well, at least you can send a Provisioner there (I don't remember being able to do that with Homeplate). AFAIK, food planting is impossible unless you have a mod that adds pots like those in Graygarden.

I really liked it. Unlike other companions, I didn't find Ada that annoying as a tag along. She worked pretty well with my character in sneak mode as well. .. And who doesn't like building robots? I built one of each type and then built one really weird one. I named them fun names like Bort, Tobor and Gerk.

Kind of a spoiler so....thou hast been warned!

Spoiler
I was looking for how Bethesda would handle the quest line. See, while it is short and nothing to brag about, they did one thing that people like myself had wanted--the option for a non-violent ending to quest lines. Being able to keep the Machinist alive gives me hope that Bethesda will give us more non-violent ways to end quest in Far harbor.

I love it! My only real gripes are: The Tesla armor is a disappointment, neither ADA or Jezebel have perks and that there is no securitron parts.

Well the Securitron was part of Fallout New Vegas and not part of Fallout 3 or Fallout 4, I think the reason for this is the Securitron was manufactured by Mr. House or Mr. House put a custom order into Robco for it as his personal private army, which also happens to be on a totally different side of post apocalyptic America. I don't think the lore would match up for an Eastern Seaboard version of a Securitron to appear in Boston. What I do find kind of funny though is the fact that Ada says that the Robobrain is kind of rare, because it was still in production status when the bombs fell, but Fallout 3's Washington DC wasteland had A LOT of Robobrain's driving around. That seems to be either a lore mistake or the dialogue was made without thinking if other people had played Fallout 3.

so i have finished it and i cant say it was really that good, story was subpar, there wasnt much new armor/weapons, and bethesda got lazy and didnt even make a full set of tesla armor, i mean come on, you couldnt have made a FULL set? kinda disspointing, over all this either should have been 4:99$ or a free update, there wasnt much content there outside of building a robot (which you will get bored of fast) to justifie 10$ price tag, and the next DLC is not going to be much better either, mainly cause it should of been in the game in the first place, so guess am stuck waiting for far harbor.

It was terrible. Very little content for $10 is just unacceptable. This makes me worried about future DLCs.

Forget Curie, Piper or any other chick in F4, Ada is awesome and her voice is too. I have a feeling if she had a synth body she'd be a total bomb. The DLC is cool, Im only dissapointed there's no real last boss battle at the end.

Too bad we couldnt have Jezebel as a companion too, her character is really cut short ( since she only wanders around and does nothing ). I also feel like Ada's character could have been more expanded.

I can replace all the settlers with robots for my needs and let the settlers live in a nice community by themselves. I can make robots to farm. salvage and caravan things around. I love being able to build my own community. Only time they complain is when it rains but thats no surprise so i'm not bothered by it. I just try my best to keep them covered. The robots make better companions then people.

you can still task her to a job. So atleast she can be useful. I made her a provisioner so she can go explore and allow me to build up another settlement i was forced to open.

Robobrain Construction/testing facility in Washington DC. Problem Solved.

Be not quite common in DC, rare anywhere else.

Ill be completely honest, its one of those DLC's I never knew I needed until I got it. Its a really good addition to the game, adds some difficulty, adds some nice player benefits. All around a good start.

But in order to be constructive you cant have all nice things to say. They threw the entire game balance out the damn window. Two shoulder mounted rockets (can be fatmen lol), with the addition of two custom arm slots, with AOE player buffs, and the possibility of 2000+ carry weight. Im mean....come on. Lets not forget the assultron head.

Im sure there are people who say "you don't have to use it if you don't want too" but that's not a valid rebuttal to poor balance. Anyone catch that reddit post of someones bot charging two deathclaws killing one instantly, and then assultron laser'd the other before the player could really do anything? My entire point right there.

Atleast they added new encounters to the world after you beat the DLC to up the challenge.

Still though 9/10 DLC for me.

Meh, it's ok I guess. Then again I find companions to be a massive hindrance and don't use them because they always run off on their own crusades and if they do stay near you they are always in the way. I spend more time flapping around with sorting a companion out than playing the game. I truly hate it when you are forced to take them on missions. They really are that disruptive.

When I first heard about the DLC's it was like my most wants for the game coming true. Now I'm playing it and it far exceeds my exceptions. Am having a blast! :goodjob:

Not sure if I commented on this but I absolutely loved it. I thought a lot of the ideas lore-wise they added in were pretty cool and interesting, the robot mechanic is really fun to mess around with even though I don't like companions that much and I felt overall it was well worth the ten dollars...even though I bought the season pass months ago :P

The new survival mode will be out fairly soon though. I can't wait to see how our new companions will fare in that mode.

Last night too I got to thinking about the difficulty of Far Harbor and how all the apects of the DLCs might interact.

I have to say I love how the balance went out the window in a good way, I mean having a robot with 2000 carryweight in this regard consoles don't need a god mode cheat, plus the fact it kills anything before it gets 5 feet from you now that's even cooler, because it means your almost invincible. I loved the companions in Fallout 3 & Fallout New Vegas, because they just charged into the battlefield and practically carpet bombed the area with weapons fire and now that's back with Automatron and almost nothing survives and I LOVE IT!

Yeah, unlike most robots, the Securitrons were created by House for his personal needs. You won't find many too far away from Mojave.

As for Robo-brains, they were not in full production but instead are only present in the most important military and government facilities (which is why you see them in older games and why they are common in the USA's capital city). I think Ada is talking about robots that were sold in shops and thus can be found everywhere.
