the sole survivor is walking with his robot, while both are wearing backpacks...


is this just a cosmetic thing, or something that increase carry capacity like pockets in pieces of armor?

Looked like part of his armor to me. But if it is a backpack, Ihope we can also get jetpacks (that dont require powerarmor)

I think that's just a cosmetic part of the armor, like the sleeping bag carried on Heavy Metal Armor, but maybe we can attach pouches and sacks as robot mods to increase our buddy-bot's carry weight.

Be good if it was a removable backpack for survival mode. Take it off move quicker and have more agility. Have it on and limited speed when turning etc. It would make it more realistic when fighting
