If you change your board style in the board preferences from prosilver to Avalon Blue, the icons for posting a reply, quoting, etc, all vanish and you are unable to do anything other than read posts. It took me a bit to discover this, since I had changed the board style immediately after I had confirmed my registration. I thought there might be a security delay in allowing new users to post or something but since my return today did not fix the issue, I thought I'd try out a few things.

This was in both Fx 3.x and IE 7.x.

I thought I had disabled Avalon Blue. Sorry! This is a known bug, but lower on the priority list until we get more important things taken care of first.

I would highly suggest not using Avalon Blue.
