Avatars

Post » Tue Jan 13, 2009 6:05 am

First of all, I'd like to say that the new layout is awesome! But the thing is I noticed that my avatar is the same just like everyone else. I remember mine being different (nanosuit guy facing forward). Can you guys bring this back? It's so hard for me to spot my post.

Avatars are being addressed and will change in the not too distant future.

Awesome. Can those of us that already purchased the Nano Edition, get Brag Suits images in the mean time? It has got to drive sales up by at least a couple...

Custom or given a choice like Blizzard on Sc2?

I hope that we can do custom avatars. :)

It would be awsome to have custome avatars like microsoft did where you can make your avatar and have him pose in different ways to make a picture of him, Microsoft made their website capable of doing it from there now.

I don't want a dedicated avatar system like Microsoft, I just want the option to change my avatar (Or signature) to whatever I want.

Simples. /meerkat

It's good to know that the web team are doing stuff about it, hopefully the "Not too distant future" isn't far away. :)

I'm not entirely sure why the web team are required for this. PHPBB (being a piece of forum software) support custom avatars, and all that's needed to enable them is a toggle in the ACP...

That is actually true, but who has the permission to enable it for us users?

And of course, what sort of effects will it have when we view it? You know, like some parts of the forums skin may not be altered to this theme.

Any of the admins (IE people with red names: Lee, Tom, etc.) can enable it.

It's still System Admin.'s job right? But the real point of an avatar is just to express and idea of your self on the web.

I think that Cry-Lee and Cry-Tom also take care of designing the websites, but im not certain about this. :)

Just to reiterate Tom's post from the other thread:

- Signatures and avatars
Something we're looking into, we want to add more customization but we're just deciding on the best way to do it, we have a few different ideas and you'll see some changes on this soon.

Cheers :)

Tbh this has me worried, the idea that they need to consider "the best way" to enable custom avatars makes me expect something borked :/
