Avoid Death perk... anyone?

Is this a worthy perk. I like the idea, but staying aware in a fight will keep you alive just the same. The value I see in the perk is those surprise power shots from an enemy that can kill you instantly... it would prevent the frustration of having to reload because you misjudged a situation or just got sloppy (perfect for DiD characters and for people like me who have turned off autosaves... Merari convinced me to go back to that).

So, does anyone take this perk or is it redundant?

You could always just use a potion. By the time you get Restoration to 90, you'll have no use for that perk.

The description says "only if the damage does not kill you", so it won't protect you from one-shot deaths.

I never used it, but I think the idea is neat. I try to never let my health go that low in the first place, though. The problem is that you can't take it until your Restoration reaches level 90 and by then you most likely don't need it anymore.

I've used it on a couple of characters and it, in all fairness, did save me a few times. But, looking at the invested time and resources in getting that perk, compared to how useful it was, and I have to conclude that it isn't worth going for. A potion of Vigorous Healing(restore 100 health, I think) or three is much better to carry. Less hassle too, not having to wait until you're left with 10% of your health. And easier to obtain, is not limited to once every 24 hours and the major investment in Restoration necessary to get the perk.

I take it often when I play characters who never use potions. I have found it to be invaluable for those characters.

Ah I can see it's use in this case. My problem is I love alchemy. It's one of my favourite skills in the game, so I've never made a character who did not dabble in Alchemy (either seriously, perks and all, or casually, no perks). I'll have to make a character who has no time for potion making. That sounds fun and it sounds like a good perk for that build. Otherwise, it does sort of sound redundant.

Edit: I was planning to make my next character a stealthy hunter (eventual thief and assassin), probably a wood elf or dark elf (cliche, I know). It would seem logical that alchemy would be part of his repitiore, so do you think I'd [censored] this build by not using alchemy?

I've never gotten Restoration high enough to take it  That skill advances at snail's pace.

I've never used it, never had a reason to. I would think if you have perks to burn then maybe it wouldn't hurt. But as said above, ther perks are better spent elsewhere and a potion would work just as well.

I consider it a 'nice-to-have'. Restoration eventually gets there, but you probably won't experience a significant change once the perk is active. It did save a couple of my PCs a few times so I think you should take it.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I gather from this thread that it can be considered redundant *except* in the scenario put forth by Person Wyrd (whom I agree with) or if one has perks to burn. So, I'll skip on it until I play a non-alchemist character.
