Avoid the Target Employee Scam with Nuka Colas!

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 8:09 am

Soo ya. Was at the store when it opened, walked to the section where they were and saw two Target employees take them all off the shelves, like 6 bottles each and buying them themselves... Bethesda, I loved the idea, but I guess it will just be an idea at this point. You probably should have chosen a better partner than Target, apperently there own employees can't be trusted.

Another gamer posted this earlier today about not being able to buy the Cola at Target in Indiana because employees were buying them up. I've experienced the same thing here in CA with a friend who tried to buy it at game launch this morning. And now this article has apparently confirmed what appears to be a national chain scam for Target. Both management and employees appear to be in on this skull duggery. Target employees are buying up the Nuka colas for $2.99 and then trying to sell it on EB for $20 to as much as $150 per bottle as a collector's item! It doesn't appear BGS or the Jones beverage company appear to be at fault. Rather, it's the limited supply of colas that Jones shipped to Target stores across the country which is driving the high demand for this collector's item. For those of you like me who really wanted to get this as a collector's item, RESIST THE URGE TO BUY IT OFF EBay! Don't let these greedy and selfish bastards profit from this. Especially since it's quite likely more than a few of them probably don't even play Fallout to begin with......

As I am sure you know this, a bunch of resellers (including Target employees) bought all the bottles. I just wanted one, but they were all sold out.

Can we, as a nation, band together and refuse to pay more than $2.99 for this item on ebay?

Thanks for your support.

Despicable, but bound to happen.

It's a real problem for serious fans and collectors and it keeps getting worse and worse.

As soon as anything is possibly "collectible" these days, there are those who go out and buy as many as they can so that they can sell it for a profit on eBay.

I'm not going to get upset about it, because life's too short for that, but I hate it. I'm sorry but those people svck, there's no other way around it.

And the problem will continue and only grow worse unless manufacturers and distributors make changes. You can't leave it to retail to fix the problem.

Really guys ... They aren't special shaped bottles. They aren't a new or unique flavor. They are Jones' regular Berry Lemonade with a crappy Nuka-Cola Quantum label glued on.

I don't understand why people were lining up for these or buying them for absurd amounts of cash on Ebay.

Because it has a crappy Nuka-Cola Quantum label. Personally, if it doesn't have the Strontium-90 food additive, then I won't buy it.

If they were in glass rocketship bottles like the Nuka-Cola's in Fallout 4, and filled with Coca-Cola or something, I'd buy them in a heart beat. But the Jones bottles don't even look like the glass bottles in Fallout 3. Absolutely zero effort was put into this. And yeah, people are snapping them up because it has "Fallout" on the label. Incredible.

Are they really?

(I guess my suggesting that idea with that company ~repeatedly for about three years, indirectly paid off. )

I would buy a pack of those if I had had (or ever get) the opportunity for it.

We should call the target stores and complain about this problem. Or email Besthade customer support about this as well.

Dont complain, file a direct complaint to Bethesda and the BBB. There is laws against this. When i worked at Target, the store I worked at, if they pulled this stunt, whoever was in on it, woulda been fired in a second. Bethesda should have put this on their conditions: Limit 2 per customer. That way it protects against people who do this.

There are absolutely no laws against this. There may be store or company policies against it although I have no idea why there would be. Your money and the money of Target employees is no different.

Never understood the big deal about these things either. I've had my fair share of attraction for collectibles in my time, but this seems to be the weakest, and obviously cheapest, kind.

If people get desperate enough to buy them at the price they are on eBay, come on, that's sad.

Yeah, I was at work, but my friend went to a Target near here when it opened. He said there were nineteen people total waiting. Target employees initially claimed they got a "Case" and it was all sold out, but when people started questioning how the entire case sold before the store opened suddenly 6 bottles magically appeared. Not sure how many are in a case, but I'm willing to bet more than six.

I tried going after work to a couple Targets. Not a chance in radiated hell...

Next time, how about giving a bottle away per copy sold? Steam receipt required to get your bottle at the store. And use a large-scale bottling company.

I email them about this and receive this response:

We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your recent store visit.

The Nuka Cola Quantum Soda was available as a pickup in store item on
Target.com, and because of its popularity it sold out quickly. We
understand your frustration and apologize that you did not have a chance
to purchase this item. We have let the appropriate teams know, so we
can continue to make sure we stay stocked on fun items like this!

Thanks for reaching out about your experience.

Sincerely,

Amy

The Target team

It's too bad they couldn't get coca-cola on board and make actual glass bottles that said nuka cola on one side and fallout 4 on the other with the old timey coke bottles with your state on the bottom of it.

But just imagine the POS scalpers if they did that, it would be even worse and horrible...I guess it could never work.

No it is not. If I walk into a store the second it opens and buy out all the stock it is not illegal. Why would it be illegal if I happen to be a store employee? There is no law against employees being allowed to shop at the stores in which they work. There is also absolutely no law against reselling a product for a higher price. This was simply an item being sold in a store.

A PROMOTIONAL ITEM. That should have been limited to 1 or 2 per customer. I will tell you this. If I was the General Manager at the store where the employees did this stunt, they could enjoy their nice profit :) Because it's all they would be getting for awhile. Why? Because they would be out on the streets looking for a new job and I would make damn sure every retail store in the nation knew the stunt they pulled. There is no reason to do that, but hopefully Target enjoys the backlash from it. Might teach them a lesson in enforcing their policies. And if I was Bethesda, I'd yank the contract with them and give it to a company who would follow the spirit and conditions of it.

Friend of mine went to the local Target to get one for my upcoming B-Day and they told him each store got twelve, they (the East Peoria, IL store) sold them limit 2 to a customer...so they first six to show up each bought two and that was that.

If you are annoyed by this then contact your local Target & report it to management; ask for them to get back in contact with you other wise you're taking it up to corporate.

You may think nothing will happen but corporate does not like [censored] like this happening. No store does as it pisses off actual buyers, and it does result in lower employees being laid off.

Yes, we could do that. We as a nation could also refuse to walk into a Target store, ever again.
